The invention relates to a catalyst comprising nickel and a solid silica support, to a process for preparing such a catalyst and to a process for the hydrogenation of an unsaturated fatty material. According to the invention there is provided a catalyst comprising nickel on a solid silica support, wherein said catalyst has a specific pore volume of at least 0.4 ml/g and a TPR peak maximum within the range of 360-420&#xb0; C.

Nickel hydrogenation catalyst

The present invention is directed to a catalyst suitable for catalyzing a Fischer-Tropsch reaction, said catalyst comprising cobalt metal supported on zinc-oxide and having the following particle size distribution by volume: &#x3c;10% having a particle size below 1 micron, 70-99% having a particle size between 1 and 5 micron, and &#x3c;20% having a particle size above 5 micron.

The invention is directed to a process for the hydrogenation of unsaturated fatty acids to produce saturated fatty acids, said process comprising hydrogenating the unsaturated fatty acid in the presence of hydrogen and a supported nickel catalyst, said supported nickel catalyst comprising an oxidic support, 5 to 80 wt. % of nickel, calculated as metallic nickel on the weight of the catalyst, and 0.1 to 10 wt. % of a manganese promoter, calculated as MnOon the weight of the catalyst.

The present invention relates to a catalyst comprising particles of a cobalt and zinc co-precipitate, having a volume average particle size of less than 150 &#x3bc;m.
