A method for detecting a magnetic marker comprises generating a driving magnetic field comprising first and second frequencies and detecting a response magnetic field comprising first and second response components. The magnetic marker provides a non-linear response to the driving signal. A primary portion of the response components is generated by the magnetic marker, and secondary portion of the response components is generated by a secondary magnetic source. The method comprises determining a driving factor representing a ratio of the frequencies in the driving signal; determining a correction factor corresponding to the secondary portion of the second response component, based on the first response component and the driving factor; determining a detection signal corresponding to the primary portion of the second response component, based on the second response component and the determined correction factor; and generating an output signal based on a strength of the detection signal.

Systems and methods for detecting magnetic markers for surgical guidance

A detection system and method uses an implantable magnetic marker comprising at least one piece of a large Barkhausen jump material (LBJ). The marker is deployed to mark a tissue site in the body for subsequent surgery, and the magnetic detection system includes a handheld probe to excite the marker below the switching field for bistable switching of the marker causing a harmonic response to be generated in a sub-bistable mode that allows the marker to be detected and localised. The marker implanted may also be shorter than the critical length required to initiate bistable switching of the LBJ material.

Systems and Methods for Detecting Magnetic Markers for Surgical Guidance Methods and systems for detecting a magnetic marker for guiding a surgeon to a region of interest during a surgical procedure comprising generating a driving magnetic field having a cyclic pattern comprising two or more successive periods of time, the driving magnetic field having a substantially constant, non-zero amplitude during each of the successive periods of time, and the amplitude of the driving magnetic field during at least one of the periods of time being different from the amplitude of the driving magnetic field during at least one other of the periods of time; detecting a response magnetic field; selecting at least one signal from a plurality of sensed signals, each of which corresponds to the response magnetic field detected during a respective one of the successive periods of time of each cycle; determining a detection signal corresponding to the magnetic marker using the at least one selected signal; and generating an output signal (e.g. an audio or display signal) based on a strength of the detection signal.

The coiled marker is deployed to mark a tissue site in the body for subsequent surgery, and a magnetic detection system with a handheld probe excites the marker above or below the switching field required for bistable switching of the marker causing a harmonic response to be generated in a bistable or sub-bistable mode that allows the marker to be detected and localised.

Magnetic markers for surgical guidance

A control component for a current-driven optical media is provided. The control component includes thin film transistors (TFT) for driving pixels of an active matrix optoelectronic device. An additional electrode is provided in a separate conducting layer within the control component in order to add a separate capacitance (C) that is coupled to the gate electrode of the control component to supplement the capacitance (C) already coupled between the gate and source electrodes.

The imaging platen has a photodetector layer and a light guiding layer operable to guide light towards the object. The imager includes a light source operable to emit light into the light guiding layer. The light source is located at an edge of the light guiding layer, to guide light into the light guiding layer of the imaging platen.
