Systems and methods described herein relate to an adapter driver board for parallel operation of power modules. The systems and methods receive an electrical signal at an input interface of a high voltage adapter board. The systems and methods may deliver the electrical signals to first and second switches along corresponding first and second conductive traces. The first conductive trace extends along the high voltage adapter board and is conductively coupled to the input interface and the first switch. The second conductive trace extends along the high voltage adapter board and is conductively coupled to the input interface and the second switch. The first and second conductive traces may have an inductance or other property that is substantially the same as each other.

Power system and method for controlling power modules

A superconducting generator including an armature configured to be rotated via a shaft and a stationary field disposed concentric to and radially outward from the armature. The stationary field including a superconducting field winding and a vacuum vessel having an inner wall of one of a non-magnetic material or a paramagnetic material facing the armature, an opposed outer wall of a ferromagnetic material and a plurality of sidewalls coupling the inner wall and the opposed outer wall. The superconducting field winding is disposed in the vacuum vessel. A wind turbine and method are additionally disclosed. The wind turbine includes a rotor having a plurality of blades. The wind turbine further includes a shaft coupled to the rotor. Moreover, the wind turbine includes the superconducting generator coupled to the rotor via the shaft.

A bus bar includes a load terminal connector comprising a conductive plate that extends from a first edge to an opposite second edge and extends from a third edge to an opposite fourth edge. The third and fourth edges extend from the first edge to the second edge. The plate includes a window opening located between the first and second edges and between the third and fourth edges. The plate also includes a slot extending into the plate from the first edge to the window opening. The plate includes first and second sets of openings configured to receive connections with first and second power terminals of switch packages. The first set of openings and the second set of openings are located on opposite sides of the slot.

Bus bar and power electronic device with current shaping terminal connector and method of making a terminal connector

A current shaping phase leg bus bar for power electronics systems includes a first terminal connector, a second terminal connector, insulated from the first terminal connector, and a third terminal connector, insulated from the first and second terminal connectors. At least one of the terminal connectors is a current shaping terminal connector that includes one or more layers having a plurality of pre-defined locations for electrical connections, said plurality of pre-defined locations including one or more first locations and a plurality of second locations, and includes one or more gaps within or among its one or more layers, to provide substantially balanced conductive pathways among its one or more first locations and its plurality of second locations.

According to some embodiments, system and methods are provided, comprising an electrical installation; one of a permanent magnet motor and a permanent magnet generator; a circuit operative to provide current to operate one of the motor and the generator; one or more sensors coupled to the electrical installation, wherein the one or more sensors are operative to detect an overcurrent in the circuit and to generate an overcurrent signal; one or more inductors; and an inductance module control operative to: receive the overcurrent signal from the one or more sensors; determine how to insert one or more inductors to reduce an amplitude of the overcurrent; activate the one or more inductors based on the determination; and deactivate the one or more inductors when the overcurrent is not detected. Numerous other aspects are provided.

Ceramic permanent magnet protection

A motor drive for driving a permanent magnet electrical machine includes an inverter having switches that are selectively operated to control current flow and terminal voltages in the electrical machine and a controller operatively connected to the inverter to control switching of the switches to control the current flow and terminal voltages in the electrical machine. The controller receives inputs regarding at least one of currents and voltages provided to the electrical machine on one or more phases, analyzes the voltages and currents to identify a fault in the electrical machine, and controls switching of the plurality of switches in the inverter to modify current flow and terminal voltages in the electrical machine based on the identified fault, with the modified current flow and terminal voltages in the electrical machine preventing demagnetization of the permanent magnets in the electrical machine.

System and method for preventing permanent magnet demagnetization in electrical machines

A heat sink has a base plate that has a first central portion, a second central portion, and a periphery, a first plurality of heat pipes embedded in the base plate that are arranged to convey heat away from the first central portion, and a second plurality of the heat pipes embedded in the base plate that are arranged to convey heat away from the second central portion, each of the heat pipes of the first and second pluralities having a hot end for receiving heat flow and a cool end for releasing heat flow. A switch package comprises an inner casing half mounted to a module facing surface of the heat sink base plate, a semiconductor module mounted to the module facing surface of the heat sink within the inner casing half, and an outer casing half that encloses the heat sink.

Heat sink apparatus and method for power semiconductor device module

A load tap changer includes a mechanical switch, a semiconductor switch and an impedance branch or an uncontrolled semiconductor switch. The mechanical switch is connected to a power terminal of a voltage conversion device to carry an electric current and is activated to switch from a first tap to a second tap of the voltage conversion device when a tap change signal is received. The semiconductor switch is then connected between the first tap and the power terminal of the voltage conversion device and is disconnected before the mechanical switch is connected to the second tap. The impedance branch or the uncontrolled semiconductor switch is connected between the second tap and the power terminal of the voltage conversion device before the mechanical switch is connected to the second tap. The impedance or the uncontrolled semiconductor switch is disconnected after the mechanical switch is connected to the second tap.

Load tap changer

A magnetizer including at least one reconfigurable magnetic flux guide coil is disclosed. A method of magnetizing a permanent magnet in-situ a mechanical member is also disclosed.
