An electromechanical steering system includes a steering shaft by which a steering command can be specified by a steering handling device, and a steering gear, which is designed to convert a steering command into a steering movement of steerable wheels of a motor vehicle, taking into account at least one input variable. A magnetic torque sensor device measures a torque applied to the steering shaft. The torque sensor device comprises a sensor for detecting an uncompensated measurement signal (T). The torque sensor device comprises a computing unit, which is designed to provide a first parameter and a second parameter for compensation of the uncompensated measurement signal (T) and to calculate a compensated measurement signal (T*) based on the uncompensated measurement signal (T) and the two parameters and to provide this compensated measurement signal (T) as the at least one input variable.

Electromechanical steering system and method for compensating a measurement signal from a torque sensor device

A torque sensor unit may include a ring magnet that is connectable to a first partial shaft and is concentric with a longitudinal axis. Two first magnetic flux conductors are connectable to a second partial shaft, are arranged in a ring magnet magnetic field, and conduct magnetic fluxes. A spatially fixed sensor unit may have two second magnetic flux conductors and a magnetic sensor on a printed circuit board, all of which are receivable in a housing. The sensor unit can detect a change in a rotation angle between the partial shafts by measuring magnetic flux density between the first magnetic flux conductors. A second housing surrounds the ring magnet, the first magnetic flux conductors, and the sensor unit. A magnetic shield surrounds the sensor unit at least partially circumferentially relative to the longitudinal axis and is arranged between a housing cover closing the second housing and the second housing.

A power steering apparatus assists steering of a vehicle by conferring torque generated by an electric motor to a steering mechanism. The apparatus includes a steering column with linked upper and lower steering shafts. An angle sensor (AS) includes a gear and magnet to measure the steering shaft angle. A torque sensor (TS) measures the relative shift angle between the upper and lower steering shaft and includes a multi-pole ring magnet and a magnetic flux conductor. The TS and AS are arranged such that the AS magnet influences the TS measurement creating a steering shaft angle depending error signal. The steering mechanism is arranged such that a zero crossing of an envelope curve of the error signal is given for the neutral position of the steering apparatus or a range of the steering position in which the steering angle is less than a threshold angle limit.
