A pet litter box () includes a housing () having a base portion (), a grid portion (), and a top portion (). The base portion has a floor () and a raised, peripheral ledge () with a vertical wall () and a horizontal wall (). The pet litter box has a removable tray (). The horizontal wall includes air vents (). Each air vent has an upwardly extending hood () having a rear wall (), two oppositely disposed end walls () which define an outwardly facing air outlet opening (). Each side air outlet opening is in fluid communication with a bottom air inlet opening () extending through the ledge horizontal wall. The air inlet opening is in fluid communication with ambient air external of the litter box. The grid portionhas a generally flat floor () with a grid of holes () there through.
