A dressing includes an application site covering and an oxygen scavenger provided with or positioned with respect to the application site covering so as to remove oxygen from a volume beneath the application site covering and around an application site covered by the application site covering. The application site covering and the oxygen scavenger are configured to maintain gas pressure beneath the application site covering around the application site that is above a therapeutic negative pressure while the oxygen scavenger is consuming oxygen beneath the application site covering.

Dressing for providing low oxygen environment

A negative pressure tissue treatment system useful for negative pressure therapy includes a drape, a gasket material, a reactor housing, a reactor, and any fluid connection(s). The drape covers the skin of a patient and maintains negative pressure under the drape. The gasket material cooperates with the drape to define an enclosed volume that is scaled by the gasket material. The reactor housing defines a closed chamber in fluid communication with the enclosed volume, and the reactor is disposed in the reactor housing. The reactor consumes oxygen from a system volume defined by the enclosed volume, closed chamber, and/or any fluid connection(s). As a result of the oxygen consumption, the system volume is reduced to between about 95% to about 80% of the initial system volume.

Negative pressure device having oxygen scavenger and volume reduction

A wound therapy device and method includes a skin contacting element, a reactor, and a reactor housing element. The skin contacting element is configured for covering an associated tissue site, the reactor for creating a pressure condition at the associated tissue site upon actuation thereof, and the reactor housing element for accommodating the reactor. The skin contacting element has a skin contacting side and an interface side, which is opposite the skin contacting side. The reactor housing element has a lower affixing side and an upper side, which is opposite the lower affixing side.

Wound therapy device and method

A dressing includes a drape, a pressure-sensitive acrylic-based adhesive on a skin-facing surface of the drape, an island of absorbent material, a silicone gel backing film, and a silicone gel on the silicone gel backing film. The drape is a thin film capable of maintaining a negative pressure underneath the drape upon application of a vacuum. The island of absorbent material has a smaller area than the drape and is applied onto the skin-facing surface of the drape. The silicone gel backing film has a frame shape and a smaller footprint than the drape and a larger footprint than the island of absorbent material.

A chemical pump assembly useful for negative pressure therapy includes a chemical pump housing having an inner chamber, a reactor located within the inner chamber, an opening provided in the chemical pump housing, a first pull tab which extends from the inner chamber to ambient through the opening, and a removable layer connected to the first pull tab. The reactor is configured to react with a selected gas found in air so as to consume the selected gas when exposed to air in the inner chamber. The removable layer shields the reactor from air in the inner chamber atmosphere until the removable layer is removed.

Chemical pump housing for negative pressure system

A negative pressure assembly includes a drape, a sealing element, a reactor, and a mechanical pump assembly. The drape covers a dressing site on a patient and seals against the skin upon application of a vacuum while maintaining a negative pressure underneath the drape. When applied to the skin, the sealing element cooperates with the drape to define an enclosed volume covered by the drape and surrounded by the sealing element. The reactor is located with respect to the drape and the sealing element to be in fluid communication with the enclosed volume when the drape is covering the dressing site and is configured to react with and consume a selected gas found in air. The mechanical pump assembly is connectable to the enclosed volume and has a pump chamber in fluid communication with the enclosed volume to draw air from the enclosed volume into the pump chamber.

Negative pressure treatment including mechanical and chemical pump

A negative pressure assembly includes a drape, a sealing element, a reactor, a valve and a mechanical pump assembly. The drape and the sealing element, when applied to the skin, cooperate to define an enclosed volume. The reactor is located so as to be in fluid communication with the enclosed volume when the drape is covering the dressing site. The reactor reacts with a selected gas found in air to consume the selected gas. The valve has a first operating state in which gas is drawn from the enclosed volume through the valve. The mechanical pump assembly includes a pump chamber fluidly connectable to the enclosed volume through the valve when the valve is in the first operating state. The mechanical pump is configured to fluidly connect with the enclosed volume and draw air from the enclosed volume into the pump chamber.

A negative pressure device for applying to skin is configured to define a sealed enclosed three-dimensional space when at least a portion of the device is sealed against the skin. The device includes a body including at least one expandable segment that is configured to expand after the device has been sealed against the skin.

The release liner has a larger area than the drape. The release liner is coated with a fluorosilicone release coating, which is in contact with the pressure-sensitive acrylic-based adhesive on the drape and is in contact with the silicone gel.

A reduced pressure device includes a dressing and a reactor. The dressing covers a dressing site and defines an enclosed volume beneath the dressing and around the dressing site. The reactor is disposed with respect to the dressing so as to produce a reduced pressure beneath the dressing when activated. The reactor includes a reducing agent and an electrolyte solution. The electrolyte solution is configured to be selectively delivered to the reducing agent, and the reactor begins to react with at least one selected gas in the enclosed volume after the electrolyte solution is delivered to the reducing agent to consume the at least one selected gas within the enclosed volume.
