An assembly for perforating a downhole formation includes a perforating gun, coupled to a downhole conveyance system, the perforating gun including an explosive charge and an uphole contact. The assembly also includes a tandem, coupled to the perforating gun proximate the uphole contact, the tandem including a cartridge assembly communicatively coupled to the downhole contact and a primary igniter communicatively coupled to the cartridge assembly. The assembly further includes an intermediate sub, coupled to the tandem opposite the perforating gun, the intermediate sub receiving at least a portion of the primary igniter, the intermediate sub having a fuse and secondary igniter. The assembly also includes a setting tool coupled to the intermediate sub, the setting tool receiving a setting signal via the secondary igniter.

Cartridge system and method for setting a tool

A connector assembly attaches downhole tools to one another to form a tool string. The connector assembly includes male and female subs, each with latch ends that selectively latch to one another. Ends of the subs distal from their latch ends are configured for attachment to the downhole tools. A plug assembly is in one of the subs and a socket assembly is disposed in the other sub; the plug and socket assemblies mate with one another when the subs attach. Mating the plug and socket assemblies forms a signal communication path through the connector assembly so that adjacent tools are in signal communication. The plug and socket assemblies and male and female subs are annular and circumscribe a bore that extends axially through the connector assembly. Downhole tools that attach to opposing ends of the connector assembly are in communication through the bore in the connector assembly.

Annular wet connector

A system and method for stimulating hydrocarbon production from a wellbore that perforates the formation around the wellbore in strategic locations so that fractures can be formed in the formation having specific orientations. The system includes deep penetration perforators that extend past a portion of the formation adjacent the wellbore having locally high internal stresses (a stress cage); and big hole perforators that form perforations with a larger entrance diameter. The perforators form perforations in the formation that are axially consolidated along the wellbore. After perforating, the wellbore is hydraulically fractured with high pressure fluid, which creates fractures in a formation surrounding the wellbore that extend radially outward from the perforations. Creating perforations that are axially consolidated reduces the chances of forming competing fractures in the formation during fracturing.

System and method for perforating a wellbore

A method and device for fracturing a subterranean formation by projecting a bullet assembly into the formation and then reacting energetic material within the bullet assembly. The bullet assembly can be part of a charge device that is in a perforating gun. A delay fuse can be included so the energetic material reaction begins after the bullet assembly reaches the end of its travel in the formation.

Perforating stimulating bullet

A shaped charge assembly for use in a perforating gun that further comprises a charge carrier, and gun housing. The charge carrier substantially encapsulates the closed portion of the shaped charge and extends from the outer periphery of the shaped charge to the inner diameter of the associated gun housing. Encapsulating the shaped charge substantially reduces the introduction of debris into the wellbore resulting from detonation of the perforating gun shaped charges. The charge carrier can include a multiplicity of shaped charges therein.

Non frangible perforating gun system

A shaped charge assembly for use in a perforating gun that comprises a shaped charge holder, two or more shaped charges, slots formed to receive the shaped charges, and an impedance barrier disposed between adjacent shaped charges. The impedance barrier can comprise a gap formed in the shaped charge holder, where the impedance barrier runs across the shaped charge holder. The impedance barrier can be a void formed on the surface of the shaped charge holder, or can include shock attenuating material therein, such as wood, cork, cotton, polymeric materials, and combinations thereof, to name a few.

A perforating system connection sub comprising a vent valve for providing fluid flow communication through the connection sub wall. The vent valve is selectively opened and may include a frangible member. The frangible member is rupterable by the shock wave produced by ignition of an associated detonation cord.

Disclosed herein is a shaped charge assembly for use in a perforating gun. The shaped charge assembly includes a shaped charge combined with a longitudinal spine extending along a portion of a perforating gun barrel. The shaped charge can be secured to the spine with a retaining shell. A bushing is included between the outer radius of the casing the retaining shell. The bushing serves to absorb shock during detonation of the shaped charge and to help in orienting the shaped charges.

Low debris perforating gun system for oriented perforating

Disclosed herein is a reinforcing system for a shaped charge assembly for use in a perforating gun. The shaped charge assembly includes a shaped charge combined with a longitudinal reinforcing system extending along a portion of a perforating gun barrel. The reinforcing system comprises a spine with a recess formed to receive the shaped charge of a perforating gun. The reinforcing system further comprises a compression zone coaxially disposed around a portion of the shaped charge. The compression zone is formed between a bushing and a retaining shell that also coaxially circumscribe a portion of the shaped charge and on one of their respective ends connect to the spine.

A stackable thru-tubing perforating gun system for use in perforating in a large diameter cased wellbore below a smaller diameter production tubing string. The system comprises a thru-tubing retrievable bridge plug for supporting a lower perforating gun section. The system further comprises at least one additional gun section stacked on top of the lower gun section. After firing, individual gun sections may be retrieved from the wellbore through the tubing string.

Thru-tubing stackable perforating gun system and method for use

A running tool is disclosed to deliver tools downhole, preferably supported on a wireline. The running tool will not release the downhole tool before the desired depth is reached, even if an obstruction is encountered. The tool has the ability to release upon application of pressure in the wellbore. The tool features a floating piston with a pre-charged chamber on one side. Hydrostatic pressure acts on the opposite side of the floating piston as the running tool descends. When the downhole tool reaches its desired depth and becomes supported, slacking on the wireline traps the hydrostatic on one side of the floating piston. Applied wellbore pressure, acting on a release piston exposed to the trapped hydrostatic on its opposite side, shifts the release piston and releases the running tool from the downhole tool. On the way uphole, the trapped hydrostatic pressure is released.

Pressure-actuated running tool

A perforating gun can be conveyed on tubing and fired while disconnected from the tubing. The gun is retained to a running tool at the lower end of the tubing in a locked position. Actuating a plunger by pressure, a weight bar or other techniques, breaks a rupture disc and allows use of hydrostatic pressure to stroke a piston and defeat the lock between the gun and the running tool. Upon exposure of ports on the gun to wellbore hydrostatic due to movement out of the running tool, the firing sequence in the gun is initiated. The weight of the gun, as well as hydrostatic or applied pressure in the wellbore, drives the perforating gun out of the running tool.

Apparatus for releasing, then firing perforating guns

A one-trip system for placement and setting a downhole packer or plug is disclosed. The packer is settable in a variety of ways, including hydraulically, acoustically by pressure pulse signals, or some combination. Use of hydraulic pressure triggers a pressure-creating reaction to initiate the setting of the packer. The setting mechanism for the packer breaks clear of the packer upon setting and allows the tubing-conveyed perforating gun, which is already preassembled as part of the string, to be accurately positioned and fired.
