An electrical connector includes a connector housing that supports at least one printed circuit board having a mating end and a mounting end. The connector housing includes a first housing portion and a second housing portion that is configured to attach to the first housing portion. The first housing portion supports the printed circuit board, and the second housing portion includes a positioning member that engages the printed circuit board so as to retain the printed circuit board in a predetermined position.

Electrical connector having positioning assembly

An electrical connector system includes a first electrical connector having a mounting interface and a mating interface, wherein the mounting interface is configured to electrically connect to an electrical component, and the mating interface is configured to electrically connect to a complementary electrical connector along a forward insertion direction. The electrical connector system further includes a heat sink disposed forward of the first electrical connector, the heat sink defining an engagement surface configured to contact the complementary electrical connector when the first electrical connector is mated with the complementary electrical connector. The heat sink is movably supported in a direction substantially perpendicular with respect to the insertion direction so as to maintain the engagement surface in thermal contact with the complementary electrical connector.

Electrical connectors capable of being mounted on circuit substrates by BGA techniques are disclosed. Also disclosed is a method for manufacturing such connectors. There is at least one recess on the exterior side of the connector elements. A conductive contact extends from adjacent the interior side of the into the recess on the exterior side of the housing. A controlled volume of solder paste is introduced into the recess. A fusible conductive element, in the form of solder balls is positioned in the recess. The connector is subjected to a reflow process to fuse the solder ball to the portion of the contact extending into said recess. Contacts are secured in the insulative housing of the connector by deformable sections that minimize stress imposed on the housing, thereby reducing warpage. Solder resist areas are formed on central portions of the contacts to promote uniformity of solder volume. As a result of these features, substantial coplanarity of the BGA array along the mounting interface of the connector is achieved.

High density connector and method of manufacture

A receptacle power connector is provided having first and second rows of electrical power contacts retained in a connector housing. The connector housing has a low profile, and the power contacts are arranged in rows that each achieves a current density of about 120 Amps/linear inch (2.54 cm).

Low profile power connector having high current density

A connector capable of being mounted onto a substrate is disclosed. Such a connector may include a housing, and a contact mounted within the housing. The contact may include a body, terminal pins extending from a first edge of the body, contact beams extending from a second edge of the body, and a flared portion. The edges of a first contact beam and a second contact beam of the contact beams may be positioned proximate respective adjacent surfaces of the housing. The flared portion may also be positioned proximate a respective adjacent surface of the housing. The relationship between the first contact beam and its respective adjacent surface, the relationship between the second contact beam and its respective adjacent surface, and the relationship between the flared portion and its respective surface may inhibit bowing of the body of the contact when the connector is mounted on the substrate.

Electrical connector with stress-distribution features

Electrical connectors capable of being mounted on circuit substrates by BGA techniques are disclosed. Also, disclosed is a method of manufacturing such connectors. There is at least one recess on the exterior side of the connector elements. A conductive contact extends from adjacent the interior side into the recess on the exterior side of the housing. A controlled volume of solder paste is introduced into the recess. A fusible conductive element, in the form of solder balls is positioned in the recess. The connector is subjected to a reflow process to fuse the solder ball to the portions of the contact extending into said recess. A power receptacle contact may include first and second contact beams that deflect independently of one another during mating of the power receptacle contact with a complementary blade contact. Each beam may extend from abutting respective body portions. The power receptacle contact may include a first clip that extends from the first contact beam. The first clip may define a blade receiving area between the first and second contact beams. A power connector may include a housing and a contact received in the housing. The contact may includes first and second protrusions that prevent the contact from moving in a first direction relative to the housing and in a second direction opposite the first direction.

Power connectors with contact-retention features

An electrical connector may include a connector housing and a first alignment post. The first alignment post may extend from the bottom of the connector housing. The electrical connector may further include a protrusion that extends from the bottom of the connector housing. The protrusion may impede the electrical connector from tipping in at least one direction relative to a substrate. Additionally, the protrusion may be positioned relative to the center of gravity of the electrical connector to impede the electrically connector from tipping in at least one direction relative to the substrate.

Electrical connector stability enhancement

A connector includes conductive pins inserted into apertures in a housing. The pins may include a single groove or a pair of opposing grooves in which ribs of the housing are disposed. The ribs may conform to the shape of the grooves to retain the pins in the housing apertures. The apertures may includes an extended side opening that opens onto an upper surface of the housing to enable a contact beam and shielding bar to be inserted from the top. Solder balls may be disposed on an underside of the connector.

Connector having retentive rib

An electrical connector that includes first and second linear arrays of electrical contacts is disclosed. The first linear array includes a first differential signal pair, a first ground contact lead adjacent to the first differential signal pair, and a second ground contact lead adjacent to the first ground contact lead. The second linear array is positioned adjacent to the first linear array, and includes a second differential signal pair, a third ground contact lead adjacent to the second differential signal pair, and a fourth ground contact lead adjacent to the third ground contact lead. The electrical connector is devoid of electrical shields between the first linear array and the second linear array.

Shieldless, high-speed electrical connectors

Complementary contact and contact block designs are disclosed that help prevent movement of a contact received in the contact block when an electrical connector is press-fit or otherwise connected to a printed circuit board. A protrusion may be included on one or both beams of a dual beam contact, and a contact cavity may be formed in the contact block. The protrusion and the contact cavity may include complementary shapes such that the protrusion abuts a wall within the contact cavity, preventing the contact from moving relative to the contact block as the electrical connector is connected to a printed circuit board. The protrusion and a wall of the contact cavity additionally may include other complementary shapes (e.g., a radius or angle shape) such that a length of the protrusion abuts the contact cavity wall, providing a longer load bearing surface.

Electrical connector with load bearing features

An electrical connector that includes first and second linear arrays of electrical contacts is disclosed. The first linear array is arranged in a first pattern of signal contacts and ground contacts. The second linear array is arranged in a second pattern of signal contacts and ground contacts that is different from the first pattern. The signal contacts define differential signal pairs. The signal contacts in the first linear array are elongated along a direction along which the first linear array extends.

An electrical connector that includes a linear array of electrical blade contacts is disclosed. Each contact may have a free-ended mating portion that extends from a mate surface of a dielectric base. The first linear array may include a first signal contact, a second signal contact positioned adjacent to the first signal contact and forming a differential signal pair therewith, and a ground contact positioned adjacent to the second signal contact. The first signal contact, the second signal contact, and the ground contact may each be elongated in a direction along the linear array.
