Use of polyelectrolyte complexes in antiperspirant technology

Natural feel polymers exhibit an advantageous blend of flexibility and a strong affinity to natural fibers imparting a natural feel when applied to keratin-based fibers, e.g. hair, skin, or textiles, e.g. cotton, wool, and are water-soluble and water-resistant. The polymers include repeat units of a monomer (e.g. &#x3b1;-olefin) maleic anhydride alkyl half-ester or full acid, maleamic acid and maleimide, which are derivatized with a polyether amine.

Natural feel polymers

Personal care compositions, particularly hair care products, include a polymer mixture made from (A) a derivatized polymer of maleic anhydride having defined repeat units of a monomer (e.g. &#x3b1;-olefin) maleic anhydride alkyl half-ester or full acid, maleamic acid and maleimide, and (B) a compound or polymer having a carboxylic acid functionality. These compositions exhibit excellent high humidity curl retention properties, as well as an advantageous blend of toughness and cohesiveness, and a strong affinity to natural fibers such as keratin-based fibers, e.g. hair, skin, or textiles, such as cotton or wool; and they are also water-soluble and water-resistant.

Personal care compositions

Personal care products, particularly hair care products, are made herein by mixing (A) a polymer having defined repeat units of a monomer (e.g. &#x3b1;-olefin) maleic anhydride alkyl half-ester or full acid, maleamic acid and maleimide, which is derivatized with an amine, and (B) a compound or polymer having a carboxylic acid functionality. These products exhibit excellent high humidity curl retention properties, as well as an advantageous blend of toughness and cohesiveness, and a strong affinity to natural fibers, when applied to keratin-based fibers, e.g. hair, skin, or textiles, e.g. cotton, wool; and also they are water-soluble and water-resistant.

Personal care products

What is described herein are derivatized polymers of .alpha.-olefin-maleic anhydride alkyl half-ester or full acid, preferably the isobutylene compound, optionally with repeat units of maleamic acid and/or its corresponding maleimide therein. These polymers are useful as fixatives in personal care products, such as hair spray compositions, particularly as one-phase, low VOC formulations in pump and aerosol systems, and in anhydrous, alcoholic, aqueous-alcoholic and in high hydrocarbon tolerant solvent formulations. In use, these hair spray compositions dry down to form clear, continuous and defectless films.

C., during a reaction period of about 1-25 hours. The product is a polymer having a predetermined ratio of the above repeat units. The polymers are included in personal care poducts.

A process for making a free-flowing, compressible powder by spraying a selected amount of an aqueous solution of polyvinylpyrrolidone onto a fluid bed containing a predetermined admixture of starch and polyvinylpyrrolidone therein, and drying. An active-containing tablet then is provided by adding an active material, optionally with a lubricant, to such powder, and compressing the admixture into a commercially acceptable tablet.
