A module for a fire-mitigating surge arrester includes: an inner arrester module including an electrically conductive assembly; a cartridge including a first end, a second end, a sidewall that extends between the first end and the second end, and an exhaust region in the sidewall, the sidewall surrounding the inner arrester module; a first electrical component in contact with a first end of the electrically conductive assembly and the first end of the cartridge; a second electrical component in contact with a second end of the electrically conductive assembly and the second end of the cartridge; and a reinforcement structure on the sidewall, the first electrical component, and the second electrical component.

Surge arrester for fire mitigation

An electrical transmission system is described herein. The electrical transmission system can include at least one first phase high-voltage conductor. The electrical transmission system can also include an arrester coupled to the at least one first phase high-voltage conductor, where the arrester includes an arrester body and an isolator, where the arrester body includes a top end and a bottom end, where the top end of the arrester is coupled to the at least one first phase high-voltage conductor, and where the bottom end of the arrester body is coupled to the isolator. The electrical transmission system can further include a ground conductor coupled to a bottom end of the isolator of the arrester. The electrical transmission system can also include a tether coupled to the ground conductor, where the tether comprises a distal end, where the distal end of the tether is coupled to the arrester above the isolator.

An arrester bypass device can include a switch having an normal state and an operated state. The arrester bypass device can also include a first electrode mechanically coupled to the switch, where the first electrode is held when the switch is in the normal state and released when the switch is in the operated state. The arrester bypass device can also include a second electrode positioned in line with the first electrode, wherein the first electrode contacts the second electrode when the switch is in the operated state. The arrester bypass device can further include a ground strap having a first end and a second end, where the first end is mechanically coupled to the plunger, and where the second end is mechanically coupled to an electrical ground.

The disclosed concept relates to hollow core arrester membranes generally and, in particular, to membranes that include a pultruded tube composed of fibers and resin, and one or more wrap layers composed of fibers and resin in the form of a mat or fabric. The one or more wrap layers are applied to the pultruded tube to form a wrapped, pultruded tube, which is over molded with a polymer enclosure.

An isolator protection device can include a housing having at least one wall and a first coupling feature, where the at least one all forms a cavity, where the first coupling feature is configured to couple to an arrester, and where the at least one wall is configured to house an isolator body of an isolator within the cavity. The isolator protection device can also include a securing device disposed within the cavity, where the securing device is configured to secure a stud of the isolator to the isolator body during normal operating conditions.
