The present invention is an endplate formed as part of a device used for transmitting or receiving a signal. The endplate has an inner plate, an outer plate operable for being connected to the inner plate, and an antenna mounted to the inner plate. The antenna is operable for connection with a device, such as a protocol adapter, which transmits and receives a signal. The endplate is operable for providing a ground plane relationship between the endplate and the antenna. The ground plane relationship between the endplate and the antenna is accomplished through the use of one of either the inner plate our outer plate being made of metal.

An audio communication system for use in the passenger compartment of a vehicle providing full duplex communication through a plurality of speakers and microphones while substantially eliminating unwanted external interference and feedback. A digital signal processor further integrates an audio entertainment and mobile transceiver subsystems. The subsystems are operated by the microphone from one or more positions within the vehicle so that each passenger has access to a cellular phone or can control the audio entertainment system.

A trainable transmitter includes code generation circuitry and a socket for receiving a plug-in module including circuitry for generating an RF signal. A system for controlling power in a remote signalling device includes an electronic controller, a transmitter portion and a signal conditioning portion. The electronic controller preferably determines the characteristics of the desired transmitted signal and provides information regarding those characteristics to the transmitter portion. The electronic controller also provides a power control signal to the transmitter portion. The controller determines the characteristics of the power control signal depending on the characteristics of the desired transmitted signal and other preselected factors. The power control signal preferably is processed by the signal conditioning portion so that it provides the desired voltage to the transmitter portion. The power control signal regulates the signal strength from the transmitter portion so that more consistent and effective communications are provided to accommodate a variety of transmitted signals and varying operating conditions over the life of the remote signalling device.

A vehicle security system includes a transmitter that is alternatively permanently mounted in or selectively removable from the vehicle. The transmitter communicates with a security system controller associated with the vehicle so that the transmitter is only useable under selected, authorized conditions. The transmitter enables a vehicle owner to access and operate a plurality of remotely located systems or devices such as a garage door opener, a home security system or a pager system, for example.

A vehicle security system includes a local area pager and additional anti-drive away protection. The remote transmitter of the system preferably includes a housing that is separated into two portions. A first portion is retained by the vehicle owner while a second portion is provided to a parking attendant with the vehicle. The vehicle owner can use the first portion to generate a signal that is received by the second portion and provides an indication to the parking attendant that the vehicle owner desires the attendant to retrieve the vehicle. Additionally, the system allows the vehicle owner to place the vehicle into a limited operation mode when the vehicle is left with the parking attendant.

A programmable transmitter includes a receiver for receiving a coded signal at a desired frequency. The code is stored in memory during a learning mode and is then retransmitted sequentially at a plurality of frequencies, including said desired frequency. During this time, the operator observes the device to be operated and indicates to the transmitter when the controlled device performs the desired function, i.e., when the desired frequency is transmitted. At that time, the operator presses a button on the transmitter, and the transmitter stores the most recently transmitted frequency.

Multiple-frequency programmable transmitter

A vehicle switching system includes a transmitter generating signals based upon activation of one of a plurality of switches. Switches mounted on vehicle components in the vehicle are each associated with a predetermined vehicle function. A receiver in the vehicle receives the signal from the transmitter and activates the predetermined vehicle function.

The preferred embodiment apparatus employs an interior trim panel and an electrical harness for use in an automotive vehicle. In one aspect of the present invention, the interior trim panel has a generally rigid substrate covered by an aesthetically pleasing covering material. In another aspect of the present invention, an electrical harness is provided with integrally created switch contacts and integrally created connector terminals.

The security system generally includes a key having an infrared transmitter and photocells which charge a power supply. The lock includes a pair of infrared receivers and a pair of light sources which charge the power supply in the key. The infrared transmitter in the key sends a key code to the lock via the infrared transmitter and the infrared receivers. A drive away prevention (DAP) module in the lock identifies the key code and enables the ignition of the vehicle.

A control is provided for allowing a user to actuate various home security systems such as garage door openers, home alarm systems, lights, etc., remotely. A transmitter is provided with encryption logic such that its signal is not easily duplicated. In a preferred embodiment, the transmitter is provided with separate channels for each of several systems which are to be actuated by the transmitter. Receivers are provided with logic to recognize the encrypted signal. The encrypted signal varies sequentially on each actuation of the transmitter. In another preferred feature of this invention, add-on receivers may be incorporated into the existing circuitry for the systems that are to be controlled by the inventive transmitter. In this way, existing systems may be utilized with the inventive transmitter.

Universal encrypted radio transmitter for multiple functions

A circuit for controlling three modes of operation of a multiple terminal load using a single positive DC voltage 12, simple circuitry, two relays 26, 30 and a single input control line 17. The circuit senses a switch 16, or logic device generating three conditions: open circuit, connection to positive voltage or connection to ground. Three operating modes are effected while minimizing the number of wires needed to control the multiple terminal load.
