The present invention provides methods and systems an impact wrench having dynamically tuned drive components, such as an anvil/socket combination, and related methodology for dynamically tuning the drive components in view of inertia displacement, as well as stiffness between coupled components, and with regard to impact timing associated with clearance gaps between the component parts.

Impact wrench having dynamically tuned drive components and method thereof

Illustrative embodiments of impact tools with impact mechanisms rigidly coupled to electric motors are disclosed. In at least one illustrative embodiment, an impact tool may comprise an impact mechanism, an electric motor, and a control circuit. The impact mechanism may comprise a hammer and an anvil, the hammer being configured to rotate about a first axis and to periodically impact the anvil to drive rotation of the anvil about the first axis. The electric motor may comprise a rotor that is rigidly coupled to the impact mechanism, the electric motor being configured to drive rotation of the hammer about the first axis. The control circuit may be configured to supply a current to the electric motor and to prevent the current from exceeding a threshold in response to the hammer impacting the anvil.

Impact tools with rigidly coupled impact mechanisms

A hand-held power tool is provided that includes a housing assembly, an output spindle, and a motor endbell. The housing assembly supports an electric motor having a rotor configured to rotate when the electric motor is supplied with power. The output spindle protrudes from an output end of the housing assembly, and is functionally coupled to the rotor such that the output spindle rotates in response to a rotation of the rotor. The motor endbell is located on the housing assembly adjacent the electric motor and opposite the output spindle. An illustrative controller is operable to determine phases of a fastening operation in which the hand-held power tool is operating. The phases of the fastening operation of the hand-held power tool include two phases including: (1) a continuous run phase and (2) an impacting phase.

Power tools with user-selectable operational modes

A power tool comprises an adjustable auxiliary handle assembly that facilities safe use of the tool by the operator when handling heavy duty handheld machinery. The adjustable auxiliary handle assembly comprises a strap, a handle base, an over-center linkage assembly, a locking lever, a locking lever and an adjustable knob. The strap is easily released and able to rotate and be locked in a different position convenient and comfortable to the operator. The auxiliary handle assembly is adjustable and can be operated with one hand (e.g., one-handed operation). The over-center linkage assembly holds the auxiliary handle position in place while allowing the power tool to be used in high-torque/high load applications.

An illustrative embodiment of the present disclosure provides hand-held power tool which includes a housing, a motor, and an output spindle. The housing supports a motor having a rotor configured to rotate when the motor is supplied with power. The output spindle protrudes from an output end of the housing, and is functionally coupled to the rotor such that the output spindle rotates in response to a rotation of the rotor. The housing also supports at least one electrical accessory that is connectable to an external power connector located on the housing.

Lighting systems for power tools

Devices with non-binding linear slides include: (a) a device body and first and second spaced apart linear rails held in the device body; (b) first and second spaced apart (rail) pathways held in cooperating alignment with the rails in the body, a respective one engaged with a respective one of the first and second linear rails that define spaced apart contact points; and (c) a translating actuation (e.g., input) member held by the body in communication with the rails. The actuation (e.g., input) member has a configuration that can generate off-center loads associated with forces applied at different positions of the actuation (e.g., input) member. Only one pathway and rail pair guides linear movement for the first and second force positions to thereby inhibit frictional binding.

Devices including power tools with non-binding linear slides and associated methods

Illustrative embodiments impact tools with torque-limited swinging weight impact mechanisms are disclosed. In at least one illustrative embodiment, a swinging weight impact mechanism may comprise a hammer configured to rotate about a first axis and pivot about a second axis different from the first axis, the hammer having a void formed therein, and an asymmetric anvil disposed partially within the void, the asymmetric anvil being configured to rotate about a third axis when impacted by the hammer. The asymmetric anvil may comprise a cylindrical body and a lug extending outward from the cylindrical body. The lug may include a first impact face extending along a first plane that intersects the third axis and a second impact face extending along a second plane that does not intersect the third axis, where the second plane intersects the first plane along a line that passes through the cylindrical body of the asymmetric anvil.

Impact tools with torque-limited swinging weight impact mechanisms

In at least one illustrative embodiment, a rotary impact tool may include an anvil and at least one hammer configured to impact the anvil to cause the anvil to rotate. The anvil may include an output shaft, a first lug extending outward in a radial direction from the output shaft and extending a first distance around the output shaft in a circumferential direction, and a second lug extending outward in the radial direction from the output shaft and extending a second distance, different from the first distance, around the output shaft in the circumferential direction.

Ring gears with a cylindrical ring gear body having a wall with a longitudinal length extending between opposing first and second ends, the wall having an outer surface and an inner surface. The inner surface has a first portion that extends a first sub-length of the ring gear body and a longitudinally spaced apart second portion that extends a second sub-length of the ring gear body. The first portion extends from the first end of the ring gear inward and the second portion extends from the second end of the ring gear inward. The inner surface of the first portion comprises a plurality of longitudinally extending splines and the inner surface of the second portion is devoid of the splines of the first portion.

Ring gears configured to encase in-line torque transducers for power tools

A starter for moving a movable portion of an engine to start the engine includes a gear housing, a gear assembly within the gear housing, an output member at a first end of the gear assembly adapted to operably couple to the movable portion of the engine, a motor housing, and a rotor rotatably mounted within the motor housing. The rotor has a shaft portion and a vane portion that are an integral, unitary piece. The shaft portion has splines for mating with the gear assembly. The splines prevent relative rotational movement between the rotor and the gear assembly and permit relative axial movement. The rotor is formed from aluminum and at least a portion of the rotor includes an anodized coating.

Single piece rotor

A rotary tool, such as an impact wrench, operable in a forward mode and a reverse mode. The rotary tool includes a housing having a forward end and supporting a motor. The motor has a motor shaft extending axially through the housing and defining an axis. The rotary tool also include a frame supported in the housing and being rotatable relative to the housing about the axis, an output shaft supported in the forward end of the housing and rotatable about the axis, and a hammer pivotably coupled to the frame and defining a central aperture. The hammer has a first jaw and a second jaw extending into the central aperture. The first jaw and the second jaw are non-symmetrical.
