Entertainment seat

A vehicle seat for coupling to the floor of a vehicle comprising a seat back, a seat cushion, a first bracket, and a second bracket. The seat back is pivotable between at least a first position and a design position. The seat cushion is configured to be coupled to the vehicle floor. The first bracket is configured to be coupled to the vehicle floor and includes one of a keyed passage and a keyed pin configured to be received within the keyed passage. The second bracket is coupled to the seat back and includes the other one of the keyed passage and the keyed pin configured to be received within the keyed passage. The keyed passage is configured to receive the keyed pin only when the seat back is in a position the seat back will be prevented from assuming after the vehicle seat has been installed in the vehicle.

Vehicle seat

A back frame for a vehicle seat assembly having an upright frame member capable of supporting compressive and tensile loading and a secondary, tensile load carrying member capable only of supporting significant loads in tension. The tensile load carrying member is attached to the upright frame member at the upper end of the back frame and extends downward behind the upright frame member and is attached to a base at the lower end of the back frame. The upright frame member is also attached to the base at the lower end of the back frame. The result is a triangular truss formed by the upright frame member, the tensile load carrying member and the base. During a frontal vehicle collision forward loading applied to the back frame results in a tensile load in the tensile load carrying member which reduces the bending loading in the upright frame member thus providing a significant increase in the forward load carrying capability of the back frame with only a slight increase in the back frame weight as compared to conventional seat assembly back frames not having a tensile load carrying member.

High tension back frame for vehicle seat assembly

A vehicle seat which carries a passenger restraint system, namely a lap belt and a shoulder belt, with a tension load carrying member being provided to resist forward rotation and bending of the backrest frame during a frontal vehicle collision when the shoulder belt is loaded in tension. The tension load carrying member forms a truss structure with the frame back portion and the frame base portion. However, during normal vehicle operation, the tension load carrying member is detached from the frame back portion eliminating the truss structure and the need for a more complex recliner mechanism for adjusting the position of the backrest. A grip mechanism is provided to attach the load carrying member in response to a high shoulder belt load to complete the truss. In an alternative embodiment, the load carrying member is released from the backrest only during adjustment of the backrest.
