In accordance with an embodiment, described herein is a system and method for supporting partitions in a multitenant application server environment. In accordance with an embodiment, an application server administrator (e.g., a WLS administrator) can create or delete partitions; while a partition administrator can administer various aspects of a partition, for example create resource groups, deploy applications to a specific partition, and reference specific realms for a partition. Resource groups can be globally defined at the domain, or can be specific to a partition. Applications can be deployed to a resource group template at the domain level, or to a resource group scoped to a partition or scoped to the domain. The system can optionally associate one or more partitions with a tenant, for use by the tenant.

System and method for supporting partitions in a multitenant application server environment

In accordance with an embodiment, described herein is a system and method for supporting multi-tenancy in an application server, cloud, on-premise, or other environment, which enables categories of components and configurations to be associated with particular application instances or partitions. Resource group templates define, at a domain level, collections of deployable resources that can be referenced from resource groups. Each resource group is a named, fully-qualified collection of deployable resources that can reference a resource group template. A partition provides an administrative and runtime subdivision of the domain, and contains one or more resource groups. Each resource group can reference a resource group template, to bind deployable resources to partition-specific values, for use by the referencing partition. A tenant of the application server or cloud environment can be associated with a partition, or applications deployed therein, for use by that tenant.

System and method for supporting multi-tenancy in an application server, cloud, or other environment

A system and method for partition administrative (admin) targeting in an application server, cloud, or other computing environment. An application server can include one or more partitions, wherein each partition provides an administrative and runtime subdivision of a domain. An administrative virtual target associated with a partition enables an administrator to identify an administrative resource group, including one or more administrative applications or resources, for use with the partition. A partition administrative lifecycle state (e.g., SHUTDOWN) can be associated with various substates (e.g., BOOTED or HALTED). When a partition is associated with a first state or substate (e.g., SHUTDOWN.BOOTED), the administrative resource group in that partition continues to run at an associated target, while other resource groups are shut down. When a partition is associated with a second state or substate (e.g., SHUTDOWN.HALTED), all of the resource groups, including administrative resource groups, in that partition are shut down.

System and method for partition administrative targeting in an application server environment

In accordance with an embodiment, described herein is a system and method for providing federated configuration in an application server, enterprise computing, or other computing environment. A runtime domain configuration associated with a server can be derived from a base configuration, one or more configuration fragments, and one or more pluggable configuration transformers. Each configuration transformer can operate upon or revise a config descriptor's in-memory representation, for example by adding, deleting, or changing configuration elements within that representation. The changes made to an in-memory working runtime configuration can then be used to control the operating configuration and behavior of the server.

In accordance with an embodiment, described herein is a system and method for supporting a situational configuration in an application server environment includes at least one computer having an application server, enterprise, cloud computing, or other computing environment executing thereon, together with one or more managed server instances that operate as part of a domain and a situational configuration file defining server configuration setting changes and an expiration. The server configuration changes are loaded if the one or more managed server instances detect an addition of the situational configuration file or a change in the situational configuration file. The server configuration changes are unloaded if the one or more managed server instances detect deletion of the situational configuration or expiration of the situational configuration.

The system enables application server components to work with partition-specific files for a given partition, instead of or in addition to domain-wide counterpart files. The system also allows the location of some or all of a partition-specific storage to be specified by higher levels of the software stack. In accordance with an embodiment, also described herein is a system and method for resource overriding in a multitenant application server environment, which provides a means for administrators to customize, at a resource group level, resources that are defined in a resource group template referenced by a partition, and to override resource definitions for particular partitions.

In accordance with an embodiment, described herein is a system and method for supporting partition and resource group shutdown and startup in an application server environment. A method can provide one or more partitions, wherein each partition provides an administrative and runtime subdivision of a domain, and one or more resource groups, wherein each of the one or more resource groups is associated with one of the one or more partition. The method receive, from an administrator, a request to perform a startup or shutdown, the startup or shutdown action being targeted to one of the one or more partition. The method can provide a lifecycle object, at an administration server, the lifecycle object associated with the one of the one or more partitions. The method can provide a monitoring object where the monitoring object can allow the administrator to monitor a status of the startup or shutdown action.

System and method for providing a partition file system in a multitenant application server environment

Methods and apparatus for dynamic class reloading and versioning that allow developers to change and recompile classes and to have running programs adopt the new versions of the classes dynamically, without redeploying the application. A dynamic class reloading component detects if the environment supports dynamic class redefinition and uses it if supported but does not require it. As the component loads a managed class, it modifies the bytecode of the class and generates additional classes and interfaces to support type-safe class versioning. Unique names are generated for successive versions of a managed class. A separate interface may be generated for each distinct method name and signature implemented on managed classes. Each generated class may implement all the generated interfaces that correspond to its methods. The same class loader that would load each managed class without the component loads the component-generated classes and interfaces.

Methods and apparatus for dynamic class reloading and versioning

System and method for receiving inbound messages from external systems and delivering the messages to applications within application servers are described. Embodiments may provide implementations of a Receiver-Processor-Dispatcher (RPD) architecture for inbound connectors that segments the work of delivering inbound messages from an Enterprise Information System (EIS) to an application into the discrete stages of receiving messages from the EIS, processing the messages to determine which components in the application should receive the messages, and dispatching the messages to the components. The delivery of messages from an EIS to an application is performed by receiver, processor, and dispatcher components of an RPD connector. RPD connectors implemented according to the RPD architecture may provide a common framework for delivering messages from an EIS to an application. Developers may implement RPD connectors according to the common framework, while customizing the RPD connectors according to the particular requirements of the EIS and/or application.
