A method includes encoding, by a encoder, a video frame of a versatile-video coding (VVC) video-compression system. The encoder generates/uses tile information associated with a video frame, determines for a slice that the slice is a subset or a superset of a tile based on the tile information, determines slice parameters associated with the slice, and signals the slice parameters associated with the slice. In other aspects, a method may include retrieving, by a decoder of a video-compression system, tile information associated with a video frame, determining, for a slice, that the slice is a subset or a superset of a tile based on the tile information, determining slice parameters associated with the slice, and decoding the video frame using the determined slice parameters.

A device implementing the subject video coding system may include at least one processor to determine an x-tap filter for horizontal interpolation of a N&#xd7;M block. The processor further determines a y-tap filter for vertical interpolation of the N&#xd7;M block, and encodes the N&#xd7;M block using the x-tap filter and the y-tap filter. The value of x is proportional to N and the value of y is proportional to M.

Block size dependent interpolation filter selection and mapping

A device implementing the subject video coding system may include a processor that encodes an N&#xd7;M block using an x-tap filter for horizontal interpolation and a y-tap filter for vertical interpolation, where x is proportional to N and y is proportional to M. The processor may use a current block size to select an interpolation filter with a first length or a second length for a current block, use an overlapped block size to select an interpolation filter with a first length or a second length for overlapped areas, and, when a neighboring block uses a long interpolation filter and a short interpolation filter is selected for the overlapped area, maps the long interpolation filter to a short interpolation filter of a selected type. The processor may calculate a reference block size based on a scaling factor and use the reference block size to select a filter length.

Efficient decoding of video content that may involve intra block copy operations, such as copying pixel data from one region of a frame to another region of the same frame is described. For example, a method to decode the video content may involve identifying the video frame in which intra block copy operation is to be performed, prior to the intra block copy operation being initiated. A video decoder may prefetch the pixel data from the source region to a local buffer with low memory latency such that the source pixel data to be copied into the destination blocks in the video frame is readily available. Thus, costly, and time consuming memory access may be avoided, and in turn a video decoding pipeline may operate smoothly without any stalling.

Pipelined video decoder system

A device for parallel symbol decoding may include a first and second block. The first block is configured to convert a bitstream into a stream of binary symbols corresponding to motion vector data and other compressed image data, insert length fields into the stream of binary symbols that are each indicative of a number of consecutive binary symbols that correspond to motion vector data, and store the stream of binary symbols in a buffer. The second block is configured to retrieve the stream of binary symbols from the buffer, determine, based at least in part on the inserted length fields, consecutive binary symbols that correspond to motion vector data, decode the consecutive binary symbols that correspond to motion vector data via a first decode path, and to decode binary symbols that correspond to other compressed image data via a second decode path that is independent of the first decode path.

Parallel symbol decoding

Systems and methods are provided that allow a deblocking filter and a sample adaptive offset (SAO) filter to be combined in a loop filter stage of a High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) decoder. In combining the deblocking filter and the SAO filter, an intermediate buffer may not be utilized, while still allowing for the deblocking filter and the SAO filter to operate substantially in parallel. The order of pixel processing and the parallelization of operation is such that the processing performed by the SAO filter need not hinder the processing performed by the deblocking filter within the loop filter stage. Additionally, and by combining the deblocking filter and the SAO filter without utilizing buffering therebetween, savings in space and cost in implementing the HEVC decoder may be realized.

A system and method are provided including a deblocker processor that reads a first data load for a first processing block from a buffer. The deblocker processor holds the first data load in a storage array in response to the first data load not including a valid value for a first quantization parameter and receives a second data load for a second processing block from the buffer. In response to the second data load including a valid value for a second quantization parameter, the deblocker processor processes the first processing block based on the second quantization parameter.

A video processing device can determine whether an input pixel includes a keyed video parameter prior to filtering the input pixel. A non-keyed substitute pixel can be generated for the input pixel that includes the keyed video parameter. The non-keyed substitute pixel can be filtered if the input pixel included the keyed video parameter, otherwise the input pixel can be filtered.

A system and method that process encoded data, wherein the encoded data is an encoded video stream. The encoded data may be buffered and the characteristics of the buffered encoded data may be determined and used to select a decoding table from a plurality of decoding tables. An encoded word may then be decoded using the selected decoding table. The output of the decoding table may be the corresponding decoded word and the size of the encoded word. The size of the encoded word may be utilized to shift the buffered encoded data. The decoded word may be sent to the appropriate portion of the system.

System and method for decoding context adaptive variable length coding

A video processing device may process video input comprising a plurality of streams, wherein images corresponding to at least some of the plurality of streams may be displayed concurrently. The video processing device may determine, prior to processing of a pixel in one of the plurality of streams whether the pixel comprises one or more keyed video parameters; and if the pixel comprises at least one keyed parameter, one or more other pixels may be selected, and a video parameter corresponding to the at least one keyed video parameter of the pixel may be generated based on the selected one or more other pixels. The generated video parameter may then be utilized instead of the at least one keyed video parameter during the processing of the pixel. This may comprise luma and/or chroma based scaling. Outputs of the processing of the pixel may be post-processed, by clamping at least one of the video parameters.

Methods and systems for processing pixels are disclosed herein. A first portion of a previously processed plurality of pixels may be buffered. A first portion of a plurality of selected pixels within a current macroblock may be filtered utilizing the buffered first portion of previously processed plurality of pixels. A second portion of the previously processed plurality of pixels may be simultaneously buffered while filtering the first portion of the plurality of selected pixels. The previously processed plurality of pixels may comprise pixels within a macroblock pair adjacent to the top of the current macroblock. The current macroblock may comprise a frame coded macroblock and/or a field coded macroblock. A second portion of the plurality of selected pixels within the current macroblock may be filtered utilizing the buffered second portion of the previously processed plurality of pixels.

Described herein is a context adaptive variable length code decoder for decoding macroblock adaptive field/frame coded video data. In one embodiment, there is presented a context adaptive variable length code decoder. The context adaptive variable length code decoder comprises a symbol decoder, and a left neighbor buffer. The symbol decoder decodes context adaptive variable length code symbols representing frequency coefficients associated with a partition of a macroblock. The left neighbor buffer stores information about another partition, the another partition being a left neighbor of the partition. The information about the another partition is overwritten by information about the partition.

Methods and systems for processing pixels within a current macroblock are disclosed. Aspects of the method may comprise acquiring a plurality of pixels that are adjacent to the left of a plurality of selected pixels within the current macroblock. A portion of the plurality of selected pixels within the current macroblock may be filtered along a vertical edge utilizing a portion of the acquired plurality of pixels that are adjacent to the left of the plurality of selected pixels. The at least a portion of said filtered plurality of selected pixels within the current macroblock may be rotated. The current macroblock may be filtered along a horizontal edge, utilizing at least a portion of the rotated plurality of selected pixels.
