A tire for sand traction includes a ground-engaging tread that is disposed radially outwardly of a wheel. Structural elements extend radially between the wheel and the tread. The tread includes an inboard shoulder and an outboard shoulder. The tread is formed with a recess wall that extends laterally between the inboard shoulder and the outboard shoulder. The recess wall is disposed radially inwardly of the inboard shoulder and the outboard shoulder to form a central recess. The tire also includes a plurality of circumferentially-spaced, laterally-extending lugs. Each lug extends across the central recess from the inboard shoulder to the outboard shoulder.

The present invention is directed to a camouflage tire suitable for use in various vehicle use environments wherein it is desirable to reduce or eliminate a viewer's visual perception of the tire against the given environmental background.

Camouflage tire

A tire is configured having first and second shoulder rows of shoulder tread elements opposite respective first and second interior rows of interior tread elements, separated respectively by circumferentially extending, zig-zag shaped first and second grooves within a tire tread region. Each groove is defined by opposed shoulder tread elements and interior tread elements and includes a circumferentially continuous see-through central groove portion extending parallel to a circumferential centerplane of the tread. The see-through circumferential grooves communicate with angular intermediate and shoulder lateral grooves having a relatively wide mouth dimension adjacent to a respective circumferential grooves. Staggered in and out shoulder regions within the shoulder tread elements facilitate gripping edges and prevent mud clogging of the shoulder grooves.

A lightweight truck and passenger vehicle tire having an improved tread design that provides numerous biting edges for increased grip in mud, snow, loose debris, and when climbing rocks as well as providing increased protection from punctures and cuts to the tire's shoulder and upper sidewall regions.

A carcass for a pneumatic tire includes a first annular bead, a second annular bead, a first continuous radial ply, a second continuous radial ply, and a third non-continuous radial ply. The first radial ply has two shoulder portions and two lateral edge portions. One lateral edge portion of the first ply extends from one shoulder portion of the first ply radially inward to a location proximal to the first annular bead. The other lateral edge portion of the first ply extends from the other shoulder portion of the first ply radially inward to a location proximal to the second annular bead. The second continuous radial ply has two shoulder portions and two lateral edge portions. One lateral edge portion of the second ply extends from one shoulder portion of the second ply radially inward to a location proximal to the first annular bead. The other lateral edge portion of the second ply extends from the other shoulder portion of the second ply radially inward to a location proximal to the second annular bead. The third non-continuous radial ply has a first portion and a second portion separate and distinct from the first portion. The first portion of the third ply extends from a location proximal to one shoulder portion of the second ply to a location proximal to the first annular bead. The second portion extends from the other shoulder portion of the second ply to a location proximal to the second annular bead.
