A packoff device is disclosed for sealing an annulus within a wellbore, and for bypassing the sealed annulus. The packoff device may include a mandrel having a bore formed axially therethrough and first and second ports extending radially from the bore. A sealing element that extends radially-outwardly from the mandrel may be positioned axially between the first and second ports, and may create a seal within an annulus between the mandrel and a casing, to isolate a portion of the annulus above the sealing element from a portion below the sealing element. A sleeve within the bore may, with the mandrel, form a channel providing fluid communication between the first and second ports. The sleeve may be movable between open and closed states. The first and second ports may be unobstructed by the sleeve in the open state, one or more may be obstructed in the closed state.

Downhole tool for removing a casing portion

A section milling device may include a plurality of rotatable arms that each include one or more cutting members. The rotatable arms may be rotated between a retracted position and an extended position. When rotated to the extended position, the rotatable arms may be locked or substantially limited in their movement by one or more hydraulic pistons. The rotatable arms may be held at a predetermined angle during milling operations.

A method for constructing a multilateral well includes drilling a main well, drilling a first lateral well from the main well, installing a production reentry deflection tool in the main well, proximate the first lateral, the first production reentry deflection tool having a first inner diameter, drilling a second lateral well from the main well and above the first lateral well, and installing a second production reentry deflection tool in the main well, proximate the second lateral, the second production reentry deflection tool having a second inner diameter. More specifically, tools and techniques are detailed which allow for controllably guided installation of a whipstock and/or subsequent production deflector hardware at locations adjacent lateral legs of a well to allow for such enhanced milling, installation and production efficiencies.

Methods and apparatuses for installing lateral wells

A technique that is usable with a well includes running string that includes a tool and a flowable object that is held in a retained position within the string downhole in the well. After the string is run downhole in the well, the flowable object is released to permit the object to flow in and subsequently seat in a flow path of the string to impede fluid communication so that the tool may be actuated in response to the impeded fluid communication.
