Methods and systems by which a consumer may select or specify coordinated features of an absorbent paper product and its packaging, such as a facial tissue or paper towel product, and then receive an absorbent paper product and packaging having the coordinated features selected or specified by the consumer.

A non-irritating antimicrobial multi-layer or multi-ply tissue product made by treating an inner layer or ply or an inner surface of an inner layer or ply with one or more antimicrobial agents and treating the one or more outer layers or plies or the outer surfaces of the layers or plies with one or more irritation-inhibiting agents, and methods of making and using the same. The antimicrobial agent will remain confined to the inner portion of the tissue product, thereby preventing irritation to the user, and the irritation-inhibiting composition treated layer(s) or ply(s) provides a pleasing, soothing, non-irritating tactile quality to the tissue product. The non-irritating antimicrobial multi-layer or multi-ply tissue product further comprises an absorption enhancing agent. In one embodiment, the irritation-inhibiting composition comprises an oil, in which case the tissue product will also entrap any absorbed contaminant, holding it in contact with the antimicrobial agent.

A paper product containing hardwood fibers that are treated with certain hydrolytic enzymes, such as endo-glucanases, is provided. Moreover, the paper product includes other types of fibers, such as softwood fibers, that may also be treated with certain hydrolytic enzymes. In addition, other ingredients, such as cross-linking agents, debonders, strength agents, etc., can be applied to further enhance the properties of the paper product. In particular, paper products formed according to the present invention can be strong, soft, and have low lint and slough production.

A web treatment device is disclosed capable of heating and creping a fibrous web with control systems for uniform operation. The web is pressed between two belts in a compression zone, where is it also subject to a temperature gradient that can assist in water removal. Durable coatings on the press belts can assist in maintaining good performance. The system can be used to apply texture to a fibrous web or drive chemical reactions or other physical changes in the web.

Systems for tissue dried with metal bands

A method and apparatus for packaging tissue in a pop-up tissue dispenser is disclosed. The pop-up dispenser being a carton having a top wall, a bottom wall and four sidewalls which join the top wall to the bottom wall. The carton also has an opening formed in the top wall through which the tissues can be withdrawn. The method includes the steps of providing several tissues that are substantially identical to one another. The tissues are described as a first tissue and a plurality of other tissues. The several tissues are transported to a folding station and are interfolded to form an interfolded assemblage. Only the first tissue is colored or has a visual indicator printed or applied to it to form a visually distinctive tissue. The interfolded assemblage is then cut to form a plurality of clips of interfolded tissues. Each of the clips includes one of the visually distinctive tissues and a plurality of the other tissues. The clips are then placed in a carton and oriented such that the visually distinctive tissue is visible through said carton opening. The apparatus includes the mechanism to accomplish the method.

Facial tissue is rendered resistant to water penetration while retaining softness by treating the fibers with a sizing agent prior to forming the sheet, or topically after the sheet is formed. The resulting tissue prevents the user's hands from becoming wetted during nose care.

A pop-up tissue dispenser is provided for improved removal of a top tissue from a clip of tissues located within a carton. In one embodiment, a visually distinctive tissue has primary and secondary folds and a visual indicator disposed adjacent the secondary fold. Except for the presence of the visual indicator, the visually distinctive tissue is substantially identical to the other, substantially visually uniform tissues in the clip. In another embodiment, the visually distinctive tissue and the other tissues form a color interface that is visible through the carton opening prior to the removal of any tissues from the carton.

The invention is generally accomplished by providing a seedbed of meltblown material having incorporated therein seeds. It is preferred that in addition to the incorporation of seeds that there is also incorporated absorbent material such as cellulose fibers and superabsorbent materials such as hydrogels.

The invention provides the combination of a dispenser and a series of incontinent or catamenial pads that are connected by easily severably areas. These pads may be rolled without harmful effects to the pad. The rolled pads that are connected by severably means are suitable for combination with a dispensing container that allows them to be withdrawn a single pad at a time. In a particularly preferred embodiment an incontinent pad having elasticized edges and double baffle is connected in series by severably portions at the ends. The pad is placed into a generally cubical box and withdrawn either from the center of the roll at the top of the box or from the end of the roll at the side of the box. The container is provided with a removable section at either the top or side for the withdrawl of pads.

Packaging of absorbent products

The invention generally provides for formation of meltblown material containing wood fiber on to a continuous foraminous belt. During formation a polymer and wood fiber first layer is applied to a moving belt from at least one bank of meltblown forming apparatus. This first layer does not contain superabsorbent. The belt carrying the first layer passes beneath at least one further source of meltblown fiber into which superabsorbent is added along with the wood fibers. This provides at least one additional layer integrally connected to the first-formed layer and having superabsorbent properties. The first layer acts to aid in trapping of any superabsorbent which is not immediately entangled in the meltblown and wood fibers and prevents it passing through the forming belt.
