A torque transfer device () for a motor vehicle includes a clutch () for transferring torque between first and second shafts (). An electromagnetic actuator () includes an axially moveable armature () for applying an application force to the clutch (). An actuator control system includes a position sensor () operable to output a signal indicative of a position of the armature (). The control system determines a target torque to be transferred by the clutch () and a target armature position based on a previously determined clutch torque vs. armature position relationship. The control system varies an electrical input to the electromagnetic actuator () to perform closed loop control of the armature position.

Torque transfer device for a motor vehicle comprising an electromagnetic actuator position control system and method for controlling a respective position control system

A torque transfer coupling includes first and second rotary members. A transfer clutch operatively connects the first and second rotary members. A piston, disposed in a piston chamber, is actuable to engage the transfer clutch. A hydraulic pump in fluid communication with a sump containing hydraulic fluid has a first pump member fixed for rotation with the first rotary member and a second pump member fixed for rotation with the second rotary member such that relative rotation between the first and the second pump members generates a fluid pumping action. A first flow path supplies hydraulic fluid from the hydraulic pump to the piston chamber. A second flow path supplies hydraulic fluid from the piston chamber to a control valve for regulating the pressure of the hydraulic fluid supplied to the piston chamber. The second flow path includes an aperture extending through the second pump member.

Hydraulic coupling

The present invention is a wind dam and vertical turbine system set on a ground surface that captures and directs wind to generate electricity. The system has a wind dam portion with a front opening, an airfoil above the front opening and a vertical turbine portion with a housing disposed on the dam portion's back side with a turbine slide door and actuator. There are also front outriggers with front wheels that are horizontally aligned to the front opening and back outriggers with drive wheels that are horizontally and movably aligned to each end of the back side of the dam portion. There is also a power drive assembly for the vertical turbine and exhaust doors and actuators to expel excessive wind.

A hydraulic control system for a vehicle includes a brake control unit having a mechanically actuated master cylinder and an electric motor driven pump. The master cylinder and the pump are each adapted to separately provide pressurized fluid to a brake cylinder. A hydraulically actuated drive coupling selectively transfers torque between rotatable input and output shafts. The rotatable output shaft is adapted to drive a vehicle wheel. The hydraulic control unit is in receipt of pressurized fluid from the pump. The hydraulic control unit includes a valve moveable between a first position where the drive coupling is in communication with the pressurized fluid and torque is transferred by the coupling and a second position where the pressure of the fluid in the cavity is reduced to reduce the torque transferred by the coupling.

A power transmission device includes a rotatable shaft having an axis of rotation. A lubrication pump includes an inner rotor and an outer rotor in meshed engagement with one another. A clutch continuously drivingly couples one of the inner rotor and the outer rotor and the shaft to limit the power transferred from the shaft to the lubrication pump. The clutch includes a plurality of circumferentially spaced-apart protrusions biasedly engaged with the shaft.

Pump assembly with radial clutch for use in power transmission assemblies

A driveline component with a first drive member, which is rotatable about an axis, a second drive member and a clutch. The second drive member has a hub, which is supported on the first drive member for rotation about the axis, and a transmission portion. The transmission portion, which is configured to engage a flexible power transmitting member, is disposed about the hub and aligned to a transmission axis that is generally perpendicular to the axis. The clutch has a spring and a set of interleaved clutch plates having portions that are coupled for rotation with a respective one of the first drive member and the second drive member. The spring generates a force that is transmitted through the hub such that the clutch plates frictionally engage one another. The location of the transmission portion relative to the transmission axis is unaffected by wearing of the set of clutch plates.

A torque transfer device for a motor vehicle includes a clutch for transferring torque between first and second shafts. An electromagnetic actuator includes an axially moveable armature for applying an application force to the clutch. An actuator control system includes a force sensor positioned within a clutch actuation force load path and is operable to output a signal indicative of a force applied to the clutch. The control system includes a controller operable to control the electromagnetic actuator to vary the force applied to the clutch based on the force sensor signal.

A method for controlling slip across a torque limiting clutch includes determining a driveline slip threshold. A cut-off temperature is determined based on at least one of a clutch temperature, a steering wheel input and a vehicle speed. A driveline slip is determined. At least of a spark retardation and a throttle cut-off is initiated when the clutch temperature is greater than the cut-off temperature and the driveline slip is greater than the driveline slip threshold.

A drive axle assembly includes first and second axleshafts and a drive mechanism coupling a driven input shaft to the axleshafts. The drive mechanism includes a differential assembly, a planetary gear assembly operably disposed between the differential assembly and the first axleshaft, a brake and first and second mode clutches. The first clutch is operable with the brake and the planetary gear assembly to increase the rotary speed of the first axleshaft which, in turn, causes a corresponding decrease in the rotary speed of the second axleshaft. The second clutch is operable with the brakes and the planetary gear assembly to decrease the rotary speed of the first axleshaft so as to cause an increase in the rotary speed of the second axleshaft. A control system controls actuation of both mode clutches.

A drive axle assembly includes first and second axleshafts and a drive mechanism coupling a driven input shaft to the axleshafts. The drive mechanism includes a differential assembly, a planetary gear assembly operably disposed between the differential assembly and the first axleshafts, a transfer clutch and first and second brakes. The first brake is operable with the transfer clutch and the planetary gear assembly to increase the rotary speed of the first axleshaft which, in turn, causes a corresponding decrease in the rotary speed of the second axleshaft. The second brake is operable with the transfer clutch and the planetary gear assembly to decrease the rotary speed of the first axleshaft so as to cause an increase in the rotary speed of the second axleshaft. A control system controls actuation of both brakes and the transfer clutch.

A torque transfer mechanism for controlling the magnitude of a clutch engagement force exerted on a clutch pack that is operably disposed between a first rotary member and a second rotary member includes a hydraulic clutch actuation system. The hydraulic clutch actuation system includes a primary fluid circuit coupled to a secondary fluid circuit by a pressure intensifier. The pressure intensifier provides magnified pressure to a piston for actuating the clutch pack.

Hydraulic control system for multiple clutches in a motor vehicle

A vehicle includes an engine that generates drive torque and a power transfer device that selectively transfers the drive torque to a driveline. The power transfer device includes an input shaft, an output shaft and a torque biasing system. The torque biasing system has a clutch pack and an actuator that regulates engagement of the clutch pack. An on-demand lubrication system supplies a lubricating fluid flow through the clutch pack based on a control signal generated by a control system. A passively actuated positive displacement pump supplies the lubricating fluid flow through the clutch pack based on a speed differential between the input shaft and the output shaft.
