A radio frequency front-end includes a first path, second path, and third path each coupled between an antenna and a transceiver. The first path is configured to convey WLAN signals from the transceiver to the antenna for transmission. The second path is configured to convey received Bluetooth signals and received WLAN signals from the antenna to the transceiver. The third path is configured to convey Bluetooth signals from the transceiver to the antenna for transmission when a WLAN link is active and not in a power save state, and is configured to convey received Bluetooth signals from the antenna to the transceiver, and Bluetooth signals from the transceiver to the antenna for transmission, when the WLAN link is either inactive or in the power save state.

Bluetooth and WLAN coexistence architecture having a shared low noise amplifier

A system including i) first wireless communication circuitry to receive and transmit packets of a first type via an antenna, and ii) second wireless communication circuitry to receive and transmit packets of a second type via the antenna. The packets of the second type are transmitted and received during time slots having a predefined length, and the time slots are separated by time intervals during which no packets of the second type are transmitted or received by the second wireless communication circuitry. The system further includes an arbiter to control access of the first wireless communication circuitry and the second wireless communication circuitry to the antenna, wherein the arbiter causes the packets of the first type to be transmitted and received by the first wireless communication circuitry during the time intervals during which no packets of the second type are transmitted or received by the second wireless communication circuitry.

Systems and methods for controlling the transmission and reception of packets over a common antenna

Bluetooth and wireless LAN arbitration is described. In embodiments, a communication device includes a Bluetooth device for Bluetooth communication according to Bluetooth protocol, and includes a wireless LAN device for network communication according to wireless network protocol. An antenna switching circuit connects the Bluetooth device to an antenna for the Bluetooth communication, and connects the wireless LAN device to the antenna for the network communication. An arbitration control system arbitrates when the Bluetooth device is connected to the antenna via the antenna switching circuit and when the wireless LAN device is connected to the antenna via the antenna switching circuit.

Bluetooth and wireless LAN arbitration

A system including a first communication module to transmit or receive data via an antenna in accordance with a first communication standard; a second communication module to transmit or receive data via the antenna in accordance with a second communication standard; and an arbitration module. The arbitration module outputs a first mutual grant where both the first communication module and the second communication module are able to simultaneously transmit data via the antenna; a second mutual grant where both the first communication module and the second communication module are able to simultaneously receive data via the antenna; a third mutual grant where the first communication module and the second communication module are able to simultaneously transmit and receive data, respectively, via the antenna; and a fourth mutual grant where the first communication module and the second communication module are able to simultaneously receive and transmit data, respectively, via the antenna.

Priority arbitration of coexisting wireless topologies

A wireless network device including an antenna, a first communication module, and a second communication module. The first communication module is configured to transmit or receive packets of data in accordance with a first communication standard, and the second communication module is configured to transmit or receive packets of data in accordance with a second communication standard. The wireless network device further includes an arbitration module configured to grant access of each of the first communication module and the second communication module to the antenna so that the first communication module and the second communication module can respectively transmit or receive data packets in accordance with the first communication protocol and the second communication protocol.

A radio frequency (RF) front-end configured to share transmissions and receptions of Bluetooth signals and WLAN signals. In an exemplary embodiment, the RF front-end comprises a first path coupled between an antenna and a transceiver dedicated to transmissions of the WLAN signals; a second path coupled between the antenna and the transceiver dedicated to simultaneous receptions of the Bluetooth signals and the WLAN signals; and a third path coupled between the antenna and the transceiver. The third path may be dedicated to transmissions only of the Bluetooth signals when a WLAN link is active; and transmissions and receptions of the Bluetooth signals when the WLAN link is active and in a power save state, and when the WLAN link is inactive.

Systems and methods for controlling the transmission and reception of WLAN and short range wireless packets over a common antenna. The system includes WLAN communication circuitry to generate data packets for wireless transmission via the antenna and to process data packets received via the antenna, and includes short range wireless communication circuitry to receive and transmit audio packets via the antenna. The system further includes an arbiter to control access of the WLAN communication circuitry and short range wireless communication circuitry to the antenna. The arbiter causes the data packets to be transmitted and received by the WLAN communication circuitry during time intervals during which no audio packets are transmitted or received by the short range wireless communication circuitry.

A wireless network device includes a first communication module to communicate with at least one of first devices and a second communication module to communicate with at least one of second devices. An arbitration module receives a request for communication from the first communication module, detects when the second communication module is communicating in a locked mode, and denies request for communication from the first communication module when the second communication module is communicating in the locked mode. Transmission or reception of a packet in the locked mode is not interrupted to avoid loss of the packet. The arbitration module grants the request for communication from the first communication module when the second communication module is communicating in the locked mode and when granting the request for communication from the first communication module does not require stopping the second communication module from communicating in the locked mode.
