Disclosed is a laser-based device for use primarily for laser light effects. The laser device comprises multiple red, green, and blue lasers. Each laser has a lens to collimate and focus each individual beam. The lasers are aligned such that each laser shares a common output axis. The intensity of each laser is adjustable thereby allowing the overall output color of the device to change. The overall output has over 16 million colors. Each laser-based device has a gimbal-like system to allow the devices change their orientation. A remote control system allows for the control and synchronization of multiple devices. Multiple devices may connect to the remote control system using cables, wireless transceivers, or both. Multiple devices may be located in close proximity to create a more powerful overall output beam. The remote control system allows for viewer interaction through an application installed onto a personal communication device.

A method for use with an ink jet printhead having a plurality of nozzles, each of the plurality of nozzles having associated therewith a respective heating element, includes printing with the plurality of nozzles a test pattern while varying an energy of a respective heater pulse used to energize each respective heating element at each of a plurality of printhead carrier positions; scanning the test pattern with a reflectance sensor to generate reflectance data associated with the energy of the respective heater pulse used to energize each respective heating element at each of the plurality of printhead carrier positions; and determining an optimal non-nucleating heater pulse for use with the ink jet printhead based on the reflectance data.

In a receiver circuit module (,) having a microcontroller (U,), an output line (FILTER_LED) connectable to a source circuit module (,) is also used as an input. A switch (SW,) disposed in the source circuit module is closed to change the wave form which is read by the microcontroller as an input signal to drive a 5V signal to the gate of a solid state switch (Q,) turning it on to thereby energize an output device in the source circuit module via the same output line (FILTER_LED). By means of the dual function of the output line the control can notify a user of an HVAC system, for example, of system problems with a blinking light and/or an audible alarm as well as serving to notify the user at a remote location that selected maintenance is due, such as a need to change filters without additional control lines. The source circuit module can be mounted near the thermostat of the HVAC system or on the central heating and cooling unit.
