An interconnect assembly electrically connecting two circuit members, which include respective arrays of electrical contacts for engagement with the interconnect assembly. The interconnect assembly comprises a plurality of electrical conductors, the plurality of conductors arranged in a spaced arrangement, the spaced arrangement of the conductors substantially corresponding to a spaced arrangement for the respective arrays of electrical contacts to provide contact between the conductors and the contact arrays and a carrier, including a socket and a retainer. The socket includes a plurality of apertures each receiving an upper portion of one of the plurality of conductors and the retainer includes a plurality of apertures each receiving a lower portion of one of the plurality of conductors; and the respective apertures are aligned axially with each other.

An electrical conductor comprises a compressible conductive member and a tubular conductive sleeve, wherein the sleeve includes an internal deformation. The compressible member comprises a tubular lattice of interlaced wires received axially within the sleeve and engaged therein by the internal deformation to retain the compressible member axially within the sleeve.

An acoustic array having polymer hydrophones is disclosed. The array compes a plastic roll, a plurality of polymer piezoelectric sensors affixed to the roll and electrodes that interconnect the sensors to utilization means such as those found for underwater detection systems or geophysical detection systems such as seismic detectors. The plastic roll has a pliant characteristic so as to readily assume a predetermined shape as well as, preferably, having a strong tendency to unravel and is of a relatively thin material. Similarly, the piezoelectric sensors have a pliant characteristic, are relatively thin, and are affixed to one of the surfaces of the plastic roll. Further, the electrodes have a pliant characteristic, are relatively thin, and are affixed to the same surface of the roll as the sensors. The overall effect of these thin and compliant elements is to provide an array having a high packing density, so that a relatively large array may be stored in a relatively small housing, such as that found in a sonobuoy. The high packing density array of the present invention may be arranged to form various directional type receiving of transmitting devices.

Flexible acoustic array with polymer hydrophones

An improved store launching device is disclosed wherein the inside of a sdard sonobuoy launch container is modified to accept, and properly dispense, only one smaller and lighter store. A positioning ring is fitted securely onto the inner walls a preselected distance from the discharge end to provide a seat for a perforated obturator. A slotted pressure relief ring, with the edge adjacent the obturator having a biased cut of a predetermined angle therein, is placed adjacent the obturator and the discharge end of the container to surround the store.

A multi-store launcher has each store in a stacked sequence releasably held y a swinging paddle assembly against the ejection force of negator springs. Each paddle assembly carries a burn resistor that is wired to maintain the paddles in a locked position. A pneumatic pulse from the transporting vehicle causes electronic circuitry to make the resistor fail, freeing the paddles to open away from the store and thereby allowing it to be ejected by the negator springs.

Launch container for multiple stores using piezo electrically-actuated

The present invention relates to a hydrophone specifically designed for use in high pressure shock wave fields, comprising a thin piezoelectric polymer film secured to a rigid hoop structure, having a centrally located active element and two conducting leads extending from the active element on each side of the film. Under the action of high pressure shock waves, the conductive material which makes up the active area electrode and the conductive leads is slowly removed, altering the hydrophone's sensitivity and eventually rendering it unusable. The present invention provides an improved design for a hydrophone which monitors the loss of electrode and lead integrity due to shock wave action so that the hydrophone may be replaced before it produces invalid readings. The leads on each side of the centrally located active element are electrically switched to measure the resistance between the leads and the central portion. In another embodiment, the film may be a disposable item allowing for rapid replacement once damaged.
