There is disclosed a liquid filter system that includes a liquid filter apparatus configured to self-clean without removal of the filter apparatus from the filter system. The filter apparatus uses both a filter media for filtering solids as well as a spin motion imparted to fluid being filtered so that centrifugal force can remove solids from the liquid being filtered. The liquid filter system also includes a gas pulse nozzle in fluid communication with the liquid filter apparatus and is configured to flow gas into the filter media to expel water and debris trapped in the filter media without removing the filter media from the filter system.

Fluid treatment system

A contaminant adsorption is provided that includes a self-assembled monolayers on mesoporous supports (SAMMS) on a lattice support structure such as sintered metal wire mesh. Individual wire fibers of the sintered wire mesh may have a film coating of mesoporous material that is functionalized for a target metal. The mesh material is formed into filtration elements with or without particulate filtration media. Systems employing such filtration elements in one or multiple stages are also disclosed with an optional acid was stripping system for regenerating SAMMS and to facilitate reclamation of contaminants that can be refined into usable commercial materials.

Contaminant adsorption filtration media, elements, systems and methods employing wire or other lattice support

A system for use in the treatment of contaminated fluid is provided. The system includes a source from which contaminated fluid may be introduced into the system, and a reservoir for an adsorbent material designed to remove contaminants from the fluid. The system also includes a reactor within which the adsorbent material and the contaminated fluid may be accommodated for treatment. A separation device may further be included for removing spent adsorbent materials from the system. A method for treating contaminated fluid is also provided.

Systems and methods for flow-through treatment of contaminated fluids

An apparatus for use in the treatment of contaminated fluid is provided. The apparatus includes a body portion, made from a mixture of a waste adsorbent material and a binder material, for use in the removal of contaminants. The adsorbent material may be a nanosorbent material manufactured from self-assembled monolayers on mesoporous supports (SAMMS). The binder material, on the other hand, may include any thermoplastic material capable of binding the adsorbent material together to subsequently provide a composite material that can be shaped into a block. A method for treatment of contaminated fluid is also provided.

A mass transfer column is provided with an external shell defining an internal region. Packing elements are positioned within the internal region of the mass transfer column. The packing elements have one or more plates formed from sheet material that has been shaped to form a plurality of corrugations on each side of the plate as a series of peaks separated by valleys. A plurality of apertures are arranged across at least a portion of the plate and a plurality of tangs extend outwardly from the surface of the plate surrounding at least some of the apertures. At least some of the outwardly extending tangs are deformed toward the plate.

Structured packing plate and element and method of fabricating same

A vane-type mist eliminator is provided with pocket-like channels extending along the lengths fo the vanes. The pockets allow droplets entrained in a gas stream to impinge and cling to the vane, and then drain, without being re-entrained in the gas stream because they are protected from the gas stream by a portion of the pocket which defines the channel. The device does not increase the pressure drop when compared with a similar device lacking the pockets, and allows for a higher throughput before breakthrough occurs.

Disclosed is a method for recovering carboxylic acids having from one to ten carbon atoms, and particularly formic acid, acetic acid and mixtures of formic and acetic acids, from aqueous solutions, in which the aqueous solution is contacted with solvent consisting essentially of mixed trialkylphosphine oxides in counter-current liquid-liquid extraction flow in a contacting step to thereby transfer the acids from the aqueous solution to the solvent, thus producing a raffinate relatively low in acid content and a rich solvent. The rich solvent is preferably dehydrated to separate water therefrom and yield a dehydrated rich solvent. The dehydrated rich solvent then has the acids stripped from it and the resulting lean solvent is then returned to the liquid-liquid extraction step, while the separated acids are split into their constituent components in a distillation operation.

Method for recovering carboxylic acids from aqueous solutions

A vapor horn-packing bed assembly for a chemical process tower incorporating a plurality of directional flow vanes within a 360 degree annular housing. A structured packing bed is disposed centrally of the annular housing and the vapor horn is disposed in flow communication with the packing bed wherein discharged vapor will ascend therethrough. The vapor horn includes a plurality of equally spaced flow vanes positioned for intercepting and diverting the vapor flow downwardly within the tower for generating a substantially homogenous vapor region beneath the packing bed. The homogenous vapor generated by such a vapor horn will comprise a turbulent, gaseous region having sufficiently uniform kinetic energy to present a substantially even ascension front into the packing bed of the vapor horn assembly and other packing beds thereabove.

Method of and apparatus for vapor distribution

Process tower vapor/liquid flow distributor and packing bed comprising a plurality of relatively thin corrugated layers stacked one atop the other. The corrugated sheets are disposed in face to face contact with respective corrugations inclined to the horizontal and facing one another for the countercurrent passage of vapor and liquid therethrough. At least two layers are utilized and rotationally offset for diverting the vapor liquid in two separate directions to effect maximum vapor liquid distribution for countercurrent fluid flow passing therethrough. An improved homogenous mixture of vapor/liquid within the process tower packing sections may thus be provided. The assembly affords optimal pressure drop characteristic while maximizing even vapor/liquid distribution into the packing regions. In this manner the distribution sections may be disposed throughout the process tower above and below each packing section, or in place of the packing section for distributing the descending liquid flow as well as the ascending vapor flow therethrough. This configuration maximizes the efficiency of the distribution thereacross and the homogenous mixture interaction therein.
