A cable release accessory releases an electrical cable that is connected to an electrical device, such as a handheld moving beam reader or a handheld imaging reader for electro-optically reading symbols. The cable is terminated by a male connector that engages a female socket in the housing during reading. The male connector has a movable locking clip that releases the cable when moved. The accessory includes a holder mounted on the cable exteriorly of the device, and an elongated actuator supported by the holder and extending into the device into an overlying relationship with the locking clip. The actuator is movable against the locking clip for depressing the locking clip to release the cable.

An electrical cable bulk which can be coiled includes a jacket; a first wire assembly and a second wire assembly. The first wire assembly includes a shield conductor member at least partially shielding a first wire set. The first wire set includes a pair of insulated conductors disposed contiguously within the shield conductor member; and a ground conductor disposed within the shield conductor member. The second wire assembly includes a first shield conductor member at least partially shielding a second wire set. The second wire set includes a first pair of insulated conductors disposed contiguously within the first shield conductor member and a second pair of insulated conductors disposed contiguously within the first shield conductor member. The second wire assembly includes a second shield conductor member around a drain conductor and the first shield conductor member. The first and second wire assemblies are disposed within the jacket.

Disclosed is a method and apparatus for preventing condensation from forming on the internal components of an optical scanner, allowing the scanner to be moved between hot and cold environments without sacrificing scanning performance or damaging the scanner. The optical scanner can be a laser scanner or a solid state imager. One method of preventing moisture from condensing on the inside of a scanner is to control the internal temperature of the scanner. This is accomplished by installing a thermostatically controlled heater module on the inside of the scanner and warming up the scanner's internal air when the air temperature falls below a predetermined point. Another method of preventing moisture from condensing on the inside of the scanner is to hermetically seal the scanning enclosure and fill with inert gas.

An electrical coupling arrangement, particular for digital transfer, has a female connector and a male connector. Each connector has an electrical coupling portion via which the data are transferred. The connectors are held together by means of a latching arrangement consisting of a pair of fixed latching posts on the male connector which mate with a corresponding pair of flexible latching sleeves which are molded within the body of the female connector. The self-latching action means that the coupling may be effected rapidly but also securely. The invention extends to a method of manufacture, with the body of the female connector being molded around latching sleeves which may have a lower melting point than the material making up the body itself.

An interface arrangement is connected between a scanning head for electro-optically reading bar code symbols and a host device having a host processor operative for processing signals with a predetermined data exchange format. The interface arrangement includes a housing; a first connector on the housing for direct connection to the host device; a second connector on the housing for direct connection to a head cable connected to the scanning head; and a conversion circuit within the housing for converting decoded signals generated in the head into data signals having a format compatible with the predetermined data exchange format of the host processor.
