Embodiments of systems and methods for data transfer disclosed herein. Specifically, embodiments may utilize a protocol module deployed on a computing device, where the protocol module may be configured to receive data from an application and send that data using a particular protocol. The protocol module may, for example, utilize a latency tolerant protocol such as the Mobile Transport Protocol (MTP).

Method and system for sending data

Embodiments as disclosed provided methods or systems for sending data over a network. Specifically, in certain embodiments, data is received and a datagram comprising at least a portion of the data can be created and sent to a terminal. Control data can be received from the terminal and the sending of the data to the terminal adjusted based on the received control data. In certain embodiments both the datagram and the control data may be sent over an unreliable protocol. Thus, embodiments as disclosed may provide an increased level of reliability and adaptability to differing network conditions in conjunction with the use of an unreliable protocol.

Method and system for data transmission

Embodiments as disclosed provided methods or systems for transmitting data over a network. Specifically, in certain embodiments, data for transmission is received and a datagram comprising at least a portion of the data can be created and sent to a terminal. Control data can be received from the terminal and the transmission of the data to the terminal adjusted based on the received control data. In certain embodiments both the datagram and the control data may be transmitted over an unreliable protocol. Thus, embodiments as disclosed may provide an increased level of reliability and adaptability to differing network conditions in conjunction with the use of an unreliable protocol.

A method of transmitting data over a network, wherein data is transmitted in packets from a first station to a second station, data is transmitted in packets from said second station to said first station, a first data packet transmitted from said first station is modified to measure connection latency, said modified first data packet is identified by said second station and a second data packet sent from said second station to said first station is also modified, and connection latency is determined at said first station with reference to (a) the time at which said first station transmitted said first modified packet, and (b) the time at which said second modified packet was received.

Measuring latency over a network

Transmitting packets of data from a first station to a second station. Each data packet conveys information of a first information type or a second information type thereby giving each an information type. Each data packet is transmitted using at least a first transmission process or a second transmission process and for each data packet a transmission process is selected in response to an indication of the information type of the information conveyed by the data packet.

Transmitting data

Data packet transmission involves transmitting a first data packet from a first station over a network to create a first transmission with the intention of the first transmission being received at a second station. Said first data packet is retransmitted from the first station to the second station to create a second transmission, wherein said second transmission of said first data packet includes latency information indicating the time between said first transmission and said second transmission. The second station processes said latency information to determine a resend latency measurement.

Transmitting packets of data

Communication occurs between a server and a terminal. The terminal establishes a first communication path with the server via a first allocated address. The server allocates an identification reference to a communication session upon initiation of said communication session. During the communication session the first communication path is closed and replaced by a second communication path with said server via a second allocated address. The server maintains said communication session after replacement of the first communication path with the second communication path by identifying said identification reference and communicating with said remote station via said second allocated address.

Maintaining communication sessions

Data packet transmission involves transmitting a plurality of data packets from said first station to a second station at a first rate of transmission. Acknowledgement data is returned from the second station to the first station to acknowledge the receipt of data packets at the second station. Data packets that are not acknowledged are retransmitted from said first station to said second station. The first station monitors retransmit information indicating how many packets are retransmitted and adjusts said rate of transmission from said first rate to a second rate in response to an output of a control procedure that receives said retransmit information as an input.

Data packet transmission

A data transmission method, wherein a first station transmits packets of data to a second station and the interval between data packet transmissions from said first station to said second station does not exceed a specified time interval, and said second station transmits packets of data to said first station and the interval between data packet transmissions from said second station to said first station does not exceed said specified time interval. Said first station identifies a preferred maximum interval of time between data packet transmissions and transmits a data packet to said second station containing a request that the interval between data packet transmissions does not exceed said preferred maximum interval. Said second station transmits a data packet to said first station containing a confirmation of said request, and said first station and said second station adjust said specified interval to substantially satisfy said preferred maximum interval.
