A control system of a vehicle includes a controller configured to be disposed onboard a first vehicle in a vehicle system formed from the first vehicle and at least a second vehicle. The controller is configured to control deactivation of an engine of the first vehicle based on one or more deactivation settings or limits of the first vehicle. The controller is configured to obtain one or more deactivation settings or limits of the at least the second vehicle and to normalize the one or more deactivation settings or limits of the first vehicle based on the one or more deactivation settings or limits of the at least the second vehicle.

Dynamic vehicle control system

A control system for a vehicle system includes a mechanically-adjustable valve having a plurality of positions, a position sensor, and a controller. The mechanically-adjustable valve is configured to be disposed onboard a rail vehicle that is coupled to at least one other rail vehicle in a consist. The position sensor is configured to be disposed in the rail vehicle to monitor a current position of the mechanically-adjustable valve. The position sensor is configured to generate an output signal that represents the current position of the mechanically-adjustable valve. The controller is configured to be communicatively coupled to the position sensor and to receive the output signal of the position sensor. The controller is configured to set an operational status of the rail vehicle in the consist based on the output signal and to adjust automatic engine shutdown and restart operations of the rail vehicle based on the operational status.

System and method for vehicle engine control

A control system for a rail vehicle system including a lead powered unit and a remote powered unit is provided. The system includes a user interface, a master isolation module and a slave controller. The user interface is disposed in the lead powered unit and is configured to receive an isolation command to turn on or off the remote powered unit. The master isolation module is configured to receive the isolation command from the user interface and to communicate an instruction based on the isolation command. The slave controller is configured to receive the instruction from the master isolation module. The slave controller causes the remote powered unit to supply tractive force to propel the rail vehicle system when the instruction directs the slave controller to turn on the remote powered unit. The slave controller causes the remote powered unit to withhold the tractive force when the instruction directs the slave controller to turn off the remote powered unit.

Control system and method for remotely isolating powered units in a rail vehicle system

A convertible system is provided for controlling automatic starts and automatic stops of a locomotive engine. The convertible system is switchable between a yard mode and a road mode based upon respectively using the locomotive in one of a yard region and road region. The convertible system includes a pressure sensor to sense pressure supplied to a brake system. More particularly, the convertible system includes a microprocessor coupled to the pressure sensor. The microprocessor causes one of an automatic start and automatic stop by sending a respective start up signal or a shut down signal to the locomotive engine, based on comparing the pressure supplied to the brake system with a stored pressure threshold for each of the yard mode and road mode.
