An enhanced safety coil that prevents crack formation and propagation to the coil windings from external sources and prevents exposure to fuel is provided. The enhanced safety coil may be used in a solenoid operated gas admission valve (SOGAV), and includes a plastic encapsulation body having at least one body de-stress feature, a coil wound on the plastic encapsulation body, a sleeve forming an outermost side protective wall configured to accommodate the plastic encapsulation body and coil therewithin, and potting provided between the plastic encapsulation body and the sleeve to seal the coil therein. The body de-stress feature is configured to reduce at least one of a formation or a propagation of a crack through the potting to the coil. The plastic encapsulation body forms retention latches configured to mate with a stator.

Enhanced safety coil for SOGAV

Embodiments of a gaseous or dual fuel electronic pressure regulation system (EPRS) for a multipoint fuel injection engine are described herein. Additionally, embodiments of a method for controlling the EPRS are provided. In particular, the EPRS employs an electronic pressure regulator (EPR) capable of accurately determining and controlling the mass flow of gaseous fuel into a fuel rail so as to avoid pressure droop and over- and under-pressurization of the gas admission valves (GAVs). By using the EPRS described above, mass flow is able to be distributed to the downstream manifold or engine cylinders very accurately, and the GAVs are able to be driven simultaneously in a pressure/pulse duration that is optimal for accurate and repeatable operation.

Pressure regulating mass flow system for multipoint gaseous fuel injection

A fuel metering valve includes a valve body housing a valve element in an interior chamber between an inlet port and an outlet port, an actuator coupled to move the valve element relative to the valve body, and a controller configured to regulate the position of the valve body. The valve element regulates a flow of fuel through the valve body. The controller regulates the position of the valve body via an actuator based on measurements by differential and absolute pressure sensors to achieve a target mass flow rate of the fuel through the valve body. The differential pressure sensor is calibrated for accuracy only across a limited scale range based on a predetermined maximum subsonic pressure.

Gas flow fuel metering

Provided is a metering plate for a poppet-style valve in which the metering plate includes a peripheral edge structure that reduces the impact of edge variation as a result of typical manufacturing tolerances. The peripheral edge structure is located at the sealing surface and extends from the peripheral surface of the metering plate so as to avoid a sharp edge at the outer diameter of the metering plate. In embodiments, the peripheral edge structure is a chamfered surface or a curved surface. Small dimensional deviations from these surfaces resulting from typical manufacturing tolerances do not have a significant effect on the discharge coefficient of the metering plate. In this way, the discharge coefficients of poppet-style valves across a fluid admission system are contained in a much tighter range, thereby enhancing the efficiency of and control over the fluid admission system.

A feedthrough device includes first and second opposing outer end faces. The feedthrough device includes an opening, between the first and second opposing outer end faces, that allows fluid communication between an interior and an exterior of the feedthrough device. A conductor extends through the feedthrough device from the first end face, through the interior, to the second end face.

Detecting leaks in a feedthrough device

A valve assembly includes a valve housing located between a fluid inlet region maintained at a first pressure and a fluid outlet region maintained at a second pressure. A movable metering plate is located within valve housing. A fixed metering plate interacts with the movable metering plate to meter fluid flow through the valve housing. An armature is coupled to the movable metering plate and is configured to move the movable metering plate from a closed position toward an open position. The fluid admission system further includes a balancing region to balance pressure related forces acting on the movable portions of the valve, including the metering plate. A balance passageway is in communication with the balancing region and the fluid outlet region to maintain the balancing region at the second pressure of the fluid outlet region when the movable metering plate is in the closed position.

Fluid admission system for providing a pressure-balanced valve

A fuel delivery device including a fuel injector adapter and a side-port fuel injector. The fuel injector adapter includes a body portion with first and second connector portions extending therefrom. An injector port is formed in the body portion and configured to receive a side-port injector, wherein the injector port includes a plurality of concentric bores and at least one annular region adapted for receiving a fuel flow associated with the injector. A first passageway is formed in the first connector portion and extends along a first longitudinal axis and intersects the port. A second passageway is formed in the second connector portion and extends along a second longitudinal axis. The second passageway is in fluid communication with the annular region.

Fuel delivery device and methods therefor

A trim system for controlling an equivalence ratio in a fuel system is provided. The fuel system includes an air duct, a mixer disposed in the air duct, and a converter. The mixer has a reference pressure port and an air valve vacuum port. The converter has an outlet port and a bias port. The trim system comprises the mixer, the converter, a balance line, one or more orifices, and first and second trim valves. The outlet port is operably coupled to the mixer to deliver vaporized fuel to the mixer. The balance line is operably coupled to the reference pressure port, the bias port, and the air valve vacuum port. The balance line provides pressure to the bias port. The first and second trim valves are disposed in the balance line and operable such that the equivalence ratio in the fuel system is controlled.
