An antenna positioning system includes an outdoor unit with a rotating antenna driven by a motor, and an indoor unit connected to the outdoor unit via a communications link, such as a cable or a wireless link, that enables the indoor unit to control the outdoor unit. On startup, the processor of the indoor unit directs the antenna to search for available signals. The resulting signal information is stored and displayed on a user interface on the indoor unit. The user can then select a desired signal and the processor of the indoor unit will automatically rotate the antenna to the appropriate angular position. Both the search procedure and repositioning of the antenna rely on accurate calibration of the antenna's angular velocity to determine the antenna's angular position, rather than relying on a position sensor.

Antenna positioning system

A wall plate assembly having a television channel select switch, a channel display, and a signal strength display. A circuit board on the rear of the wall plate includes a television antenna connector, a television output connector, and control electronics. The control electronics displays the selected channel in the channel display, determines the signal strength for the selected channel in any signal on the television antenna connector and displays it in the signal strength display. The control electronics delivers the signal for the selected channel to the television output connector.

Wall plate digital television antenna signal meter and method

A digital exciter (30) for selectively modulating digital or analog input data. The digital exciter includes a digital signal modulator (32) and a digital quadrature modulator (DQM)(36) comprising two digital signal processors (DSPs). The signal modulator is controlled by a control (40). An operator can selectively determine whether the digital exciter is used for modulating either two level or four level NRZ digital data and whether the device is to provide linear modulation or frequency modulation (FM) of the input signal. An interpolator (38) interpolates a 662/3 kHz timer interrupt rate used in the signal modulator to a 400 kHz rate, thereby reducing the processing load on the DSP comprising the DQM by simplifying the sine and cosine values used in the quadrature modulation. An operator can select from among a plurality of operating parameters on a menu for controlling the signal modulator, either from a local or a remote video display terminal (VDT).
