Techniques are provided for providing assistance to users in locating and accessing points of interest associated with particular time positions in the media items using the techniques described herein. For instance, an electronic device outputting a media item may select one or more metadata items based on a current output position in the media item. The electronic device may then generate and output a user interface including a progress bar that includes indicators representing the selected metadata items and output the user interface to a display of the electronic device.

Navigating metadata in long form content

Systems and methods are provided for determining user interface controls associated with hierarchical levels during media content playback. In some embodiments, instructions may be provided to display user interface controls associated with a level of media content, such as a chapter level. A change in the level of media content and/or the user interface controls associated with the level may be a response to a level change request. A level change request may be initiated by user input and/or may automatically be initiated by the current content playback position.

Determining hierarchical user interface controls during content playback

Features are disclosed for facilitating content presentation and consumption based on input regarding a user's gaze. Gaze tracking or eye tracking information can be obtained from, e.g., a user-facing camera. A content presentation system can determine whether the user's eyes have closed and how long they have closed, whether the user's gaze is directed at the portion of content currently being presented or at some other location, etc. Based on such determinations, presentation of content may be modified. In some cases, a current presentation position may be changed, highlights may be applied, a special bookmark may be generated, etc.
