A computer system has a processor running an operating system that supports one or more filesystems and removable storage device capable of storing images captured by a digital camera and formatted by the operating system according to a supported filesystem. According to one aspect of the present invention, a method comprises the computer-implemented steps of (a) storing in the removable storage device a first directory entry for a filesystem wherein the first directory entry includes a file name having a restrictive pathname imposed by the naming convention of the supported filesystem; (b) storing in the removable storage device an image table of contents for the stored images wherein the image table of contents includes a presentation filename having a presentation pathname selected by a user of the digital camera, the presentation pathname being independent of the naming convention of the supported filesystem; and (c) storing in the image table of contents a linkage between the image table of contents and the first directory such that the presentation pathname may be mapped into the restrictive pathname whenever the first directory is accessed for presentation by a user interface of a receiving system.

Imaging table of contents

A method for constructing an optical disk and a method of signal detection which permits a read only device, such as a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM reader, to create a permanent mark on a disk in such a way that it can be subsequently determined that the disk had been previously accessed is disclosed. Such a disk facilitates the operation of CD-ROM or DVD-ROM based systems where the behavior depends on whether or not the information on the optical disk had been previously accessed.

Copy protection marks on a transparent layer of an optical disk

An optical recording medium comprising a first substrate with a center mounting hole and having top and bottom surfaces. At least one surface of the substrate is a prerecorded area wherein user data is provided and adapted to be read in an optical recording medium reader device. Over at least a portion of the substrate that can be read by the device is a photosensitive layer comprising a photosensitive material. When the photosensitive material is exposed to a predefined wavelength of light over a predetermined period of time the optical property of at least a portion of the material permanently changes. This change occurs after each copy of the prerecorded area is made. Thereby, the optical recording medium limits the authorized copies of the prerecorded area to a predetermined number.
