A water heater may be configured to detect a possible main gas valve non-closure condition in which the sensed water temperature continues to rise while a thermopile signal reaches a stable state. When the possible main gas valve non-closure condition is detected, the controller may be configured to toggle the main gas valve ON and determine whether the thermopile signal from the thermopile changes from the stable state or not by at least a predetermined amount.

Method for detecting a non-closing water heater main gas valve

A remote water heater monitoring system is configured to communicate with a plurality of client water heaters over a network. The system processes received data related to the operation of the plurality of client water heaters and identifies one or more baseline trends over time related to water heater performance and/or water heater reliability using the received data from one or more of the client water heaters and identifies one or more abnormalities in the operation of a particular one of the client water heaters based on the baseline trends. An alert is generated for one or more of the abnormalities in the operation of the particular one of the client water heaters and is associated with a corresponding client account.

Cloud-based analytics for water heaters

A water heater having a monitoring mechanism, an appliance burner configured to heat water in a tank of a water heater, a water temperature sensor configured to detect a water temperature in the tank, a pilot device configured to ignite the appliance burner, and a thermopile having a tip and a base, and having an output voltage that represents a temperature difference between the tip and the base. The tip of the thermopile may be heated by the pilot device. The base of the thermopile may receive heat from the appliance burner when the appliance burner is turned on, and thus the voltage output of the thermopile may decrease. If the voltage output does not decrease and the water temperature exceeds a thermal cutout limit, then a warning about the water heater may be issued by the monitoring mechanism.

A pilot burner assembly for easy removal of a thermo-electric or other device is disclosed. In an illustrative embodiment, a pilot burner assembly may include a bracket and a resilient clip, which together, help maintain at least some of the pilot burner components in a desired configuration.

Gas pilot burner assembly

The present invention relates to electrostatically actuated device components and methods of making the same. In an embodiment, the invention includes a method of making an electrostatically actuated device component including providing a multilayered structure comprising a first layer comprising a first polymer, a second layer comprising a conductive material, the second layer disposed over the first layer, a third layer comprising a dielectric material, the third layer disposed over the second layer, positioning the multilayered structure within an injection mold, and injecting a second polymer into the mold and bonding the first layer to the second polymer to produce an electrostatically actuated device component. In an embodiment, the invention includes a method of injection molding a stator component for an electrostatically actuated valve.

Insert molded actuator components

An electromagnetic valve assembly having a dual armature solenoid for controlling two valves is disclosed. In one embodiment, the solenoid may include a first pole piece, a second pole piece spaced from the first pole piece, a coil disposed about at least a portion of the first pole piece, a first armature extending laterally across the first pole piece and the second pole piece, and a second armature extending laterally across the first pole piece and the second pole piece. In one illustrative embodiment, the first armature and the second armature pivot relative to the second pole piece. In another illustrative embodiment, the first armature and the second armature pivot relative to the first pole piece. In yet another illustrative embodiment, the first armature and the second armature pivot relative to opposite pole pieces. In any case, the coil may electromagnetically actuate the first and second armatures to selectively open and/or close corresponding valves or other actuatable components.

A dehumidification system for dehumidifying a conditioned space. The system is comprised of a motionless desiccant block for dehumidifying air within the conditioned space. The system is configured to operate in one of two modes. In a first dehumidifying mode the system draws air from the conditioned space, dehumidifies the air, and returns the air to the conditioned space. In a second regeneration mode the system draws air from outside the conditioned space, heats the air, passes the heated air through the desiccant to dry the desiccant, and expels the air back outside the conditioned space. The system is configured with pivoting dampers to select air source and air destination for the two modes of the system. The system includes blowers in order to motivate the flow of air and a regenerative heater for use during regeneration mode. By utilizing a motionless desiccant block the system avoids the expense and maintenance of desiccant wheels and wheel motors.

Dehumidifier using non-rotating desiccant material

A ventilation and dehumidification system for ventilating fresh air to a conditioned space. The system is comprised of a unitary heat transfer desiccant wheel for dehumidifying incoming air by exchanging moisture from an inflow current of air with an outflow current of air. The unitary heat recovery wheel is able to transfer heat between the two air currents when the wheel is spun at a faster speed. The unitary heat transfer desiccant wheel is both regenerated and defrosted by a regenerative heater which is placed to heat the outflow current of air before the outflow current passes through the unitary heat transfer desiccant wheel. The unitary heat transfer desiccant wheel is spun at a slow speed to accomplish more dehumidification, and at a fast speed to accomplish more heat recovery. The system includes at least two blowers in order to motivate the inflow and outflow currents of air. The blowers can be arranged so as to create an air pressure differential between the inflow chamber and the outflow chamber so that any leakage of air between the two chambers will occur from the inflow chamber to the outflow chamber.

Ventilating dehumidifying system using a wheel for both heat recovery and dehumidification

A ventilation system for ventilating fresh air to a conditioned space, the system capable of supplying substantially more air to the space than is removed by the system in order to prevent depressurization inside the space. Passing through the unit housing is an inflow chamber, an outflow chamber, and a make-up air duct. Two blowers, an intake blower and an exhaust blower, are placed within the inflow chamber and the outflow chamber in order to motivate inflow and outflow currents of air. A damper acts to open and close the make-up air duct. When the damper is in an open position and the intake blower operates at a higher speed than the exhaust blower the system increases the air pressure within the conditioned space. A heat transfer wheel is disposed within both the inflow chamber and the outflow chamber to exchange heat between the two currents of air. A pre-heater is placed in the make-up air duct to be used in cold weather conditions to heat the air which bypasses the heat recovery wheel. The system can also include a desiccant wheel and regenerative heater in order to provide the function of dehumidification.

A housing for electrical equipment has first and second halves. An electrical connecting plug between the housing halves is arranged to require halves of the plug to be separated before the housing halves can be separated.

Electrical equipment housing safety interlock system

A system for controlling make-up air apparatus for a controlled building space includes a first sensor for sensing the operation of a first appliance within a building space. The appliance causes the air to be exhausted from the controlled building space. There is a controller which receives a first signal from the appliance indicating that the appliance is activated. This signal is used to determine the air flow requirements between the controlled building space and an environment outside of the controlled building space such as to ensure a predetermined balance of the pressure of air within the controlled building space and the environment outside of the controlled building space. An air temperature sensor monitors the outside temperature. A back-flow damper and a preheater are also associated with the make-up air apparatus. A switch activates the preheater in the event that the temperature of outside air is below a predetermined level. The motor of a blower causes air to be drawn into the building space. The motor speed is determined in response to appliance operation.

Water distribution tray for an in-duct humidifier

A nozzle assembly for the water distribution tray of a humidifier has at least one arm which cooperates with a feature such as a slot on a tray wall, to hold the nozzle assembly in a desired position above a water distribution area of the tray. In a preferred embodiment, the nozzle assembly has two pairs of arms for mounting the nozzle assembly to the tray. Each pair of arms together form a wishbone shape. The arm ends of each pair can be deflected toward each other to permit the ends to enter a slot on the tray wall. When the arm ends are released within the slot, they latch with the slot to hold the nozzle assembly in the desired position.

Nozzle assembly for the water distribution tray of a pad-type humidifier

An in-duct humidifier has a permeable rectangular pad to be placed in a heated air stream. Water dripping onto the top of the pad is evaporated by the air stream which is passing through the pad to thereby increase its humidity. The pad is held in a frame and the frame is mounted in the humidifier's housing. The frame holds the pad by an arrangement of sloped surfaces and narrow projections to minimize the area of the frame in direct contact with the pad. By minimizing the contact area between the pad and the frame, the amount of water flowing onto the frame and evaporating from the frame is minimized, thereby reducing the rate and amount of minerals dissolved in the water which are deposited on the frame surfaces.
