A method for noise cancellation includes monitoring a system for a current operating point, monitoring the system for a predetermined disturbance, and in response to the predetermined disturbance, determining the disturbance to be in one of a transient or steady state response period. A set of data is selected corresponding to the current operating point of the system, the disturbance, and the response period from a database containing predetermined noise cancellation waveform data. A noise cancelling waveform is output to audio transducers based upon the selected set of data.

A system that determines a road surface profile based upon filter coefficient data from noise cancellation systems is disclosed. The system includes a filter coefficient monitoring module that is configured to receive a first set of filter coefficient data from an noise cancellation module. The system also includes a road surface profile module that is configured to receive an input representing a road surface type and generate a road surface profile based upon the road surface type and the first set of filter coefficient data and to store the road surface profile including a correspondence between the road surface type and the first set of filter coefficient data.

A vehicle and an associated method for augmenting audible sound generated in a passenger compartment by operation of first and second torque machines are described. The passenger compartment includes an audio speaker that is operably controlled by a controller that is also is in communication with the first and second torque machines. The controller includes an instruction set that is executable to determine first parameters associated with audible sound generated by operation of the first torque machine and determine second parameters associated with audible sound generated by operation of the second torque machine. A desired audible sound in the passenger compartment is determined. The audio speaker is controlled to generate a correction tone based upon the first parameters, the second parameters and the desired audible sound in the passenger compartment.

The present disclosure is directed to a system and a method for spectral shaping of vehicle noise cancellation. In an example implementation, the method includes determining a center frequency of an expected tonal peak within a selected noise band based upon vehicle data, generating a noise cancellation signal using a weighted shaping filter to shape the noise band, and outputting the noise cancellation signal to smooth the expected tonal peak.

The sound control module is further configured to determine N adjusted magnitudes for the N predetermined harmonics based on: the N magnitudes for the N predetermined harmonics, respectively; and the N magnitude adjustments for the N predetermined harmonics, respectively. An audio driver module is configured to apply power to at least one speaker of the vehicle and output the predetermined engine sound based on the N adjusted magnitudes at N frequencies, respectively, corresponding to the N predetermined harmonics of the base frequency.

Audio control systems and methods for vehicles with variable compression ratio engines

Road noise masking for a vehicle includes determining, by a computer processor, an expected interior sound associated with the vehicle. The expected interior sound is defined by a design of the vehicle in conjunction with road conditions encountered by the vehicle. The road noise masking also includes monitoring, via the computer processor, information sources of the vehicle during a driving event. Upon determining a current road surface from the monitoring, the road noise masking includes calculating a masking noise shape commensurate with the expected interior sound, and transmitting instructions including the masking noise shape to an audio system in the vehicle. The audio system produces masking noise from a tuner of the audio system that approximates the masking noise shape.

A pass-through element for a motor vehicle front of dash panel system includes a body portion having an outer edge that surrounds a central web. A conductor pass-through member is provided in the central web, and a sound enhancing element provided in the central web alongside the conductor pass-through member. The sound enhancing element is configured and disposed to condition and conduct motor vehicle engine sound from an engine compartment to a passenger compartment through the motor vehicle front of dash system.

A porous, sound absorbing structural foam load floor support is provided that defines an integral duct. The duct is configured as a ventilation air passage from the air outlet of a heat-emitting component, such as an energy storage system in a hybrid vehicle, so that the load floor support serves both to support the load floor as well as to provide a route for heat dissipation. By integrating the duct within the load floor support, a separate duct, which would have to route around other vehicle components located under the load floor, is not required. The structural foam load floor support is configured to absorb noise of a cooling system for the energy storage system. A porous expanded polypropylene foam is especially well-suited for noise attenuation and load floor support.

A pair of tubes are provided, one of greater diameter than the other so that the tubes can be telescoped together. An annular inward facing projection is formed on the outer tube for contact with the outside surface of the inner tube when the tubes are telescoped together. An annular outer facing projection is formed on the inner tube for contacting with the inside surface of the outer tube when the tubes are telescoped together. An adhesive is placed on one of the tubes for contacting with the other tube when the tubes are telescoped together. After the tubes are telescoped together weld current is conducted through the tubes to weld the annular projections to the respective opposing tube in contact therewith and at least partially cure the adhesive.
