Systems and methods for creating cuts on a bone are provided utilizing one or more cutting guides assembled to a plurality of bone pins, where the bone pins are inserted on the bone coincident with one or more virtual pin planes defined relative to one or more of the cuts. Alignment guides are also disclosed herein that aid in the creation of pilot holes for receiving a cutting block in a desired position and orientation (POSE). An articulating surgical device actively positions the bone pins coincident with the virtual plane to ensure the cutting guides, when assembled to the pins, aligns one or more guide slots in the desired POSE to create the cuts.

A biocompatible surgical article is provided for cutting biological tissue or implantation in contact therewith. The surgical article has a composition of tungsten carbide-nickel with a percentage of additional metal carbides present. A typical composition in total weight percentages is WC 85 to 95%, CrC, MoC, VC each alone or in combination being present from 0 to 2%, and Ni constituting the remainder. The composition is formed to have a mean grain size of between 200 and 800 nm with a particle dispersion index (PdI) corresponding to (the square of the standard deviation)/(mean grain size) of between 0 and 0.6, and in some embodiments between 0.02 and 0.2.

A surgical device is provided includes a hand-held portion with a working portion movably coupled to the hand-held portion for driving a tool. Actuators are provided for moving the working portion with each of the actuators having a travel range. A system and process is provided for dynamically positioning or repositioning a robot in a surgical context based on workspace and task requirements, manipulator requirements, or user preferences to execute a surgical plan. The system and method accurately determines and indicates an optimal position for a robot with respect to a patient's anatomy before or during a surgical procedure. Optimal positions for a robot are intuitively indicated to a user. surgical procedures can illustratively include surgery to the knee joint, hip joint, spine, shoulder joint, elbow joint, ankle joint, jaw, a tumor site, joints of the hand or foot, and other appropriate surgical sites.

A saw guide for guiding a surgical saw or drill includes a guide portion having one or more guide slots, the one or more guide slot or hole configured to guide a surgical saw or drill. The guide portion has an attachment portion forming a clamping slot between the guide portion and the attachment portion. A clamp locking mechanism is assembled to the guide portion and has one or more cams in contact with the attachment portion. An alignment system for surgical bone cutting procedures is provided that includes bone pins inserted within a virtual plane relative to a cut plane to be created on a subject's bone. One of the aforementioned guides is configured to be received onto the bone pins, one or more guide slots within said guide, said one or more guide slots configured to guide a surgical saw to make surgical cuts on the subject's bone.

The at least one sensor detects a trajectory of an external disturbance on the manipulator or an external cue from a user. A controller is provided that converts the trajectory detected by the at least one sensor to an input signal or the external cue detected by the at least one sensor to an input signal. A drive system receives the input signal, and in response to the input signal powers the base or to power the base in a trajectory corresponding to the external cue. The methods generally include receiving and processing scan data of a patient's bone(s); pre-determining the optimal tunnel placement parameter(s) with the scan data; placing registration marker(s) on the patient's bone(s) percutaneously; and creating a tunnel in the patient's bone(s) with a system coupled to receive and execute according to the pre-determined optimal tunnel placement parameter(s).
