The described features generally relate to receiving one or more positioning signals at a satellite terminal during installation of the satellite terminal at a customer premises, and providing position-based access to a satellite communications system based on a satellite terminal installation position determined from the received positioning signals. The determined installation position of the satellite terminal may then be employed for various network access techniques, such as providing access to the satellite communications system, providing position-based content, or restricting content via the satellite communications system based on the determined installation position. In some examples the determined installation position of the satellite terminal may be used to approximate a propagation delay between the satellite terminal and various devices of the satellite communications system, such as a serving satellite and/or a serving gateway, to improve device synchronization and radio frequency spectrum resource utilization.

Position-based access to satellite networks for satellite terminals

The present disclosure relates to one or more techniques for communicating across multiple nodes using a single communication link. In certain embodiments, the nodes may be an indoor unit and an outdoor unit of a satellite user terminal for a satellite system. The multiple nodes may communicate with each other using a managed time division duplexed baseband signaling protocol over a single communication link.

Managed time division duplexed baseband signaling

A method for determining a frequency correction and a symbol rate correction for transmissions from a user terminal in a satellite communications system comprises determining a frequency of a signal received at the user terminal, and determining a symbol rate of the signal received at the user terminal. The method also comprises computing an error associated with an oscillator at an outdoor unit of the user terminal, and computing an error associated with an oscillator at an indoor unit of the user terminal. The method also comprises computing a transmit frequency correction for the user terminal based on the error of the oscillator at the outdoor unit and the error of the oscillator at the indoor unit, and computing a transmit symbol rate correction for the user terminal based on the error of the oscillator at the indoor unit.

Transmit frequency precorrection for satellite terminals

Digital communications interleavers re-order the bits of a data coding block in a way that can be described by a table of indices that map the original order to the interleaved order. Conventional interleavers include index table interleavers, which store an index table ahead of operation and algorithmic Interleavers, which generate the indices during operation. Described herein are a new class of interleavers: Subset Transform Interleavers. A subset of generator outputs is selected and processed to create the interleaver indices. The selection is determined apriori and the selection results are stored in a Subset Usage Table. During operation, the generator is operated again and the Subset Usage Table entries determine which generator outputs are used. The generator may be a pseudo-random number generator. Implementations can use an Indexes Remaining Table, which can additionally be manipulated during operation such that it returns to an initialized state after each block interleaving process.

Subset transform interleaver

A modular satellite transceiver is provided according to some embodiments of the disclosure. The modular transceiver may include an RF module and a back end module. The RF module may operate in a first band, and may include, for example, one or more antennas, an RF front end module, an up converter, a down converter, an analog-to-digital converter, and a digital-to-analog converter. The back end module may include various digital processing components and/or modules. The RF module may be removably coupled with the back end module such that the RF module may be replaced with another RF module operating in a second band. During transmission the back end module may provide at least one digital signal to the RF module; and during reception the RF module provides at least one digital signal to the back end module.

In a telecommunication network where a wireless path is provided between a transmitter and a receiver via a satellite relay forming a multi-hop relayed signal path, a method and system are provided for furnishing adequate signal at a user terminal, which may be in motion, along the propagation path, the method including an open loop component that uses measurements of fading in a received signal at a first terminal to adjust transmit power from the first terminal and further includes a closed loop component that uses measurements of fading in the received signal at a second terminal along with an acknowledgement message and power correction.
