The article () may be applied to a substrate (), for example, on a generally vertical surface of a vehicle or stationary structure.

Multi-surface passive cooling articles

A composite cooling film comprises an ultraviolet-reflective multilayer optical film and a reflective microporous layer secured thereto. The ultraviolet-reflective multilayer optical film is at least 50 percent reflective of ultraviolet radiation over a majority of the wavelength range of at least 340 but less than 400 nanometers. The reflective microporous layer has a continuous phase comprising a nonfluorinated organic polymer and is diffusely reflective of solar radiation over a majority the wavelength range of 400 to 2500 nanometers, inclusive. The composite cooling film has an average absorbance over the wavelength range of 8 to 13 microns of at least 0.85. An article comprising the composite cooling film adhered to a substrate is also disclosed.

Composite cooling film and article including the same

Barrier films including a (co)polymeric substrate, at least one dyad on the substrate, each dyad made of a (co)polymer layer and an oxide layer overlaying the (co)polymer layer, and an outer (co)polymer layer overlaying the dyads. Optionally, at least one outer oxide layer overlays the outer (co)polymer layer. The barrier films transmit visible light and transmits, at an incident light angle of at least one of 0°, 30°, 45°, 60°, or 75°, at most 70 percent of incident ultraviolet light at a wavelength range from at least 100 nanometers to 400 nanometers or in a wavelength range from at least 100 nm to 350 nm. The barrier films exhibit atomic oxygen degradation of less than 1×10mg/atom. The barrier films may be applied to decorative objects or electronic devices, (e.g., light receiving or emitting devices, in a satellite or aircraft. Methods of making the barrier films also are disclosed.

A hybrid solar window comprises: at least one glazing; a wave-length-selective solar mirror positioned to reflect IR toward an IR absorbing element. The IR absorbing elements comprises a conduit having a respective fluid inlet and fluid outlet, and an IR absorbing compound, wherein the IR absorbing compound is in thermal communication with the conduit. The wavelength-selective solar mirror has an average visible light transmittance of at least 50 percent and an average IR reflectance of at least 50 percent over the wavelength range of 850 to 1150 nanometers, inclusive. The IR absorbing element is configured to transfer thermal energy to a heat transfer fluid circulating through the conduit, wherein the IR absorbing element has an average visible light transmittance of at least 30 percent, and wherein each IR absorbing element has an average IR absorptance of at least 50 percent over the wavelength range 850 to 1150 nanometers, inclusive. Certain IR absorbing elements are also disclosed.

A light guide comprising a polymeric layer at least 25 percent transmissive over at least a 30 nm bandwidth in a wavelength range from 180 to 280 nm over a distance of at least 100 micrometers and visible light transparent reflecting layers (UV-C mirror) that are at least 50 percent reflective over at least 30 nm bandwidth in a wavelength range from 180 to 280 nm over an incident light angle of 0 to 90 degrees and that are at least 25 percent transmissive of visible light over at least 30 nm bandwidth in a wavelength range of 400 to 800 nm over an incident light angle of 0 to 90 degrees. The light guide is useful, for example, for antimicrobial surfaces.

Ultraviolet C light guides

Anti-reflective article includes a layer defining an anti-reflective surface. The anti-reflective surface includes a series of alternating micro-peaks and micro-spaces extending along an axis. The surface also includes a series of nano-peaks extending along an axis. The nano-peaks are disposed at least on the micro-spaces and, optionally, the micro-peaks. The article may be disposed on a photovoltaic module or skylight to reduce reflections and resist the collection of dust and dirt.

Multilayer infrared (IR) reflecting films are provided. An optical repeating unit of the film include a plurality of optical polymeric layers arranged to reflect light by constructive and destructive interference. Optical layer A is a high refractive index polymeric layer, and optical layer B is a low refractive index isotropic polymeric layer containing fluoropolymers. The film has an average reflectance of about 50% to about 100% in a near infrared wavelength range of about 850 nm to about 1850 nm, and an average transmission of about 70% to about 90% in a visible light range.

A multilayer fluoropolymer film comprising, in order: a first layer comprising a first polymer, the first polymer comprising at least 35 mol percent tetrafluoroethylene comonomer, at least 15 mole percent vinylidene fluoride comonomer, and at least 5 mol percent hexafluoropropylene comonomer, based on the total mol percent of the first polymer; a second layer comprising a second polymer, the second polymer comprising at least 50 mol percent vinylidene fluoride comonomer, based on the total mol percent of the second polymer; and a third layer comprising a third polymer, the third polymer comprising at least 50 mol percent methylmethacrylate comonomer, based on the total mol percent of the third polymer. The multilayer fluoroplymer films are useful for example, in multi-layer film applications (e.g., traffic sign protection, commercial graphic protection, paint protection, windows, windshields, building exteriors, and photo voltaics).

A film is described comprising a first film layer having a Tg ranging from 30&#xb0; C. to 60&#xb0; C. The first film layer comprises a (meth)acrylic polymer and polyvinyl acetal polymer composition. Various embodiments disclosed relate to multilayer films including hidden fluorescent features. The present disclosure includes a multilayer optical film including an isotropic multilayer optical film having first and second opposed major surfaces. The isotropic multilayer optical film reflects at least 50% of a light that is at least one of ultraviolet light or visible light, having an incident angle less than a cutoff angle from normal to the first major surface of the isotropic multilayer optical film, wherein the cutoff angle is in a range from 10&#xb0; to 70&#xb0;. The isotropic multilayer optical film allows at least 50% of the light having an incident angle of more than the cutoff angle from normal to the first major surface of the isotropic multilayer optical film to pass through the isotropic multilayer optical film. The isotropic multilayer optical film includes a marking on the second major surface of the isotropic multilayer optical film, the marking including at least one fluorescent compound. Various embodiments of multilayer optical films described herein are useful, for example, as anti-counterfeiting features, such as in identification documents or cards, currency, labels for pharmaceuticals or other high value products, or financial cards.
