Rotary seal valve/container assembly allowing withdrawal of a medical fluid contained in the container by the use of a device such as a syringe or IV set having a luer connector. The rotary seal valve includes: an elastomeric stopper having a cavity; a rotary seal bottom insert positioned in the bottom portion of the cavity; a rotary seal top insert, equipped with threads and serving as a male luer connector, rotatably engaging the bottom insert. One or more holes are provided in the bottom inset and top insert which holes are alignable with each other, by rotating the top insert, forming one or more channels through which the medical fluid is accessed. Upon rotating the top insert in opposite direction the rotary valve can be closed. A removable cap positioned over the rotary seal valve maintains the rotary seal valve in aseptic condition.

A self-aligning plunger rod and a non-elastomeric plastic plunger insert assembly for use with an elastomeric plunger in a cartridge or syringe barrel for manual or power-assisted withdrawing of fluid from a site or expelling fluid from the cartridge or syringe barrel.

Multiple use universal connector designed for use in various containers having a fluid port for accessing to the content of the container or for transferring fluid into the container. The multiple use universal connector incorporates a diaphragm capable of being penetrated repeatedly by an access means such as a luer connector or a syringe having a sharp or blunt cannula for fluid communication between the content of the container and the access means. The multiple use universal connector re-seals itself after being penetrated and the access means removed therefrom.

A method for making a stopper. The method includes the step of providing a first tool defining a first tool cavity and a second tool defining a second molding cavity. A first plug member having an upper surface and a lower surface also is provided, the upper surface of the first plug member having a concave portion. The first plug member is faced in the first cavity such that at least a portion of the lower surface of the first plug member is in contact with the first cavity. The second tool defines a hole therethrough such that the hold provides fluid contact between the second tool cavity and a point exterior to the second tool. A polymeric material is transferred through the hole defined by the second tool into the second cavity defined by the second tool and into the concave portion of the upper surface of the first plug member such that the polymeric material forms a second plug member having an upper surface and a lower surface, the upper surface of the second plug member being defined by the molding surface defined by the second tool. The first plug member and the second plug member define a stopper. The stopper is then removed form the first and second tools.

Method for making a stopper

A vial access adapter for withdrawal of a medical fluid contained in a vial which includes a vial access adapter body having a circular top wall with a plurality of vent holes, a circular second wall spaced from the top wall, and a cylindrical side wall which walls define a chamber for holding an anti-bacterial filter. A first spike centrally located in the vial access adapter body extends through the top wall, chamber, and bottom wall, with one end extending above the top wall terminating in a threaded luer connector, while the other end terminates in a sharp point. A flow channel extends through the first spike designed for withdrawal of the medical fluid from the vial. A second spike positioned parallel to the first spike extends from the second wall, one end of which extends into the chamber, and the other end terminates in a sharp point. A flow channel extends through the second spike designed for air flow from the chamber into the vial. An elastomeric membrane positioned within the threaded luer connector seals the opening in the vial access adapter. Preferably the elastomeric membrane is of M-shaped configuration capable of flexing under pressure and of re-sealing itself after being pierced by a luer connector or a syringe equipped with a luer connector.
