A vane actuator for use in a turbine engine, comprising a carrier member carrying a plurality of vanes which is angularly movable, in use, so as to vary the position of the vanes relative to an airflow through the engine. The actuator includes an electrical drive arrangement comprising an input shaft which is arranged to drive an output shaft coupled to the carrier member. The electrical drive arrangement includes a brake arrangement arranged to apply a braking load to the input shaft in the event that an interruption occurs in the electrical drive arrangement.

Vane actuator

An actuator having a piston member slideable within a cylinder, the piston member defining with the cylinder a first chamber and a second chamber, the effective cross-sectional of the piston member exposed to the fluid pressure within the first chamber being greater than that exposed to the fluid pressure within the second chamber. The actuator further has first and second ports through which fluid can be supplied to the first and second chambers, respectively, and a third port located intermediate the first and second ports. The piston member and the third port are cooperable to throttle the rate at which fluid is able to escape from the first and second chambers through the third port, in use.

Actuator

A sensor mounting arrangement comprising a mounting component arranged, in use, to carry a moveable part of a sensor. The mounting component is coupled through a first load path to a drive component to move with the drive component. The mounting component includes an opening through which the drive component extends, the drive component defining an abutment surface which is spaced from the mounting component in normal use and is arranged such that, should the first load path fail, the abutment surface is moveable into engagement with the mounting component to transmit movement of the drive component to the part of the mounting component carrying the moveable part of the sensor through a second load path.
