A system for monitoring hydraulic fracturing of a well includes an apparatus configured to generate a pressure wave in a wellbore of the well. The pressure wave causes a response from a formation surrounding the wellbore. The system further includes a sensor configured to detect the response and output a signal based on the detected response. The system further includes a processor configured to receive the signal and analyze the signal to determine a characteristic of the formation. A fracking operation of the well is altered based on the determined characteristic.

Monitoring hydraulic fracturing of a well using pressure waves

Disclosed embodiments may relate to bellows pumps for introducing treatment fluid into a well. Wear issues, for example causing leakage of the discharge valve, can lead to pressure build-up in the pump chamber which may eventually damage the bellows. Disclosed embodiments may be configured to prevent such damage to the bellows due to discharge valve leakage. For example, in some embodiments a mechanism may hold open the suction valve during pump stoppage, to prevent pressure accumulation. Alternate embodiments may be configured to protect the bellows, even when the pump continues to run. Related methods are also disclosed.

Active bellows pump valve management

Disclosed embodiments may relate to pumps for introducing treatment fluid into a well. For example, a piston-driven bellows pump may include a power end, having a piston disposed in a power end bore; a fluid end, having a fluid end bore and a chamber in fluid communication with a suction valve and a discharge valve; and an expandable bellows disposed in the chamber and in fluid communication with the fluid end bore. In embodiments, the power end can be configured to reciprocally expand and contract the bellows within the chamber based on movement of fluid by the piston. In embodiments, the power end bore and the fluid end bore may be fluidly coupled to form a unitary, continuous, and/or unbroken pump bore without external piping therebetween and/or without unswept volume therebetween. Related methods are also disclosed.

Direct connect piston-driven bellows pump

Exemplary systems for introducing treatment fluid into a well can include a bellows pump and a make-up system configured to maintain a controlled volume of fluid between the piston and the bellows of the bellows pump. The make-up system can be fluidly coupled to the bellows and to at least one additional component of the system. In embodiments, the make-up system can be configured to receive heat via circulation of fluid with the at least one additional component of the system, and to discharge heat via circulation of the fluid with the bellows, for example with the bellows conducting heat from the fluid to the treatment fluid for heat discharge.

Systems and methods using a bellows pump to perform operations for a subterranean formation

In accordance with presently disclosed embodiments, a hybrid drive system that uses multiple sources of mechanical energy to drive a pump is provided. The hybrid drive system may include a first mover for generating first mechanical energy, a pump, a drivetrain for providing first mechanical energy from the first mover to the pump, and a second mover within the drivetrain to generate and provide second mechanical energy to the pump. The multiple sources of mechanical energy may provide flexibility with respect to system design and allow for alternative sources of fuel and energy to be used to drive pumping systems. This may reduce the total diesel fuel consumption necessary to perform a well stimulation operation as well as provide for configurations in which diesel engines may be excluded from the pumping process in favor of alternative energy sources that typically do not have sufficient torque capacity to power a pump.

Hybrid drive systems for well stimulation operations

A method for balancing a pump load of a plurality of pumping units during a pumping operation comprising determining a first balance pump load based on a set of weighted factors. The method determines a second balanced pump load after receiving an indication of reduced pumping performance from a first pumping unit. The method excludes the first pumping unit from the second balanced pump load while maintaining the flowrate of the first balanced pump load. The method determines a transition pump load to transition from the first pump load to the second pump load as the first pumping unit ramps down.

System and method for controlling cumulative pumping rate

A method for minimizing over pressurization during a pressure test of a fluid distribution system comprises a plurality of pumping units in fluid communication with a wellhead via a manifold. The method comprises pressurizing the fluid distribution system with a fluid using an initial number of pumping units to an initial predetermined pressure, and further pressurizing the fluid distribution system with the fluid using a final number of pumping units to a final predetermined pressure. The final number of pumping units is less than the initial number of pumping units.

Methods for conducting a pressure test to minimize over pressurization for a fluid distribution system

The disclosure provides for a wellbore servicing system that comprises an engine operable to provide power to one or more pumps. The one or more pumps are operable to direct a fluid into a wellbore, wherein the engine is coupled to the one or more pumps via a transmission. The system further comprises an engine control module (ECM) coupled to the engine. The system further comprises a controller coupled to the one or more pumps and operable to determine the volumetric efficiency of each of the one or more pumps. The system further comprises an information handling system, wherein the ECM and the controller are communicatively coupled to the information handling system, wherein the information handling system is operable to determine a divergence when a load is placed on the engine and a pumping plan for the system.

Engine condition and control through the use of a pump as a dynamometer

A method of conducting a pressure test on a piping and manifold system can include isolating a wellhead from fluid flow into a well to form a closed test system, operating at least one and less than all of the plurality of pumping units to pump fluid into and pressurize the closed test system to a first predetermined pressure, upon reaching the first predetermined pressure, halting pumping of fluid by the at least one of the plurality of pumping units, continuing pumping of fluid into the closed test system with at least one pressure test pump to pressurize the manifold and piping to a final predetermined pressure, and upon reaching the final predetermined pressure, halting pumping of the fluid by the at least one pressure test pump.

Methods for conducting a pressure test, and systems relating thereto

A driveline assembly for use with a well-servicing pump system is disclosed. The driveline assembly comprises a stub shaft attachable to one of a pump or a motor, a flange shaft attachable to the other of the pump or the motor, and a coupling assembly comprising a drive-transfer cylinder and a spring-loaded locking sleeve. In a drivingly-engaged position, rotary drive motion of the motor is transferred to the pump. In an unlocked position, the locking sleeve allows the drive-transfer cylinder to move axially from the drivingly-engaged position where the drive-transfer cylinder connects and transfers rotary drive between the flange shaft and the stub shaft to the drivingly-disengaged position where the drive-transfer sleeve disconnects and allows relative rotation between the flange shaft and the stub shaft. In a locked position, the locking sleeve locks the drive-transfer cylinder in one of either the drivingly-engaged position or the drivingly-disengaged position.

A system and method for controlling a pumps configured to pump fluid from a fluid supply to a frac iron configuration. A pressure schedule is defined, the pressure schedule including a pumps assigned to sets of pumps, wherein each set of pumps is associated with a pressure level and wherein each set of pumps except a first set of pumps is a subset of a previous set of pumps. The first set of pumps is enabled to pump fluid continuously until the fluid in the manifold has reached a predetermined pressure level. A processor then automatically disables the electric pumps that are not in the next set of electric pumps, while allowing the next set of pumps to continue to pump fluid until the fluid in the manifold has reached the next pressure level. This continues until the manifold is at the desired pressure.

Automatic pressure test and equalization to wellhead pressure

A gaseous fuel supply to an engine at a wellbore can be monitored using a monitoring system. The monitoring system can include a sensor apparatus having sensors configured to monitor the fuel supply of the engine. The fuel supply can be transported within a fuel supply line of a wellsite. The monitoring system can divert a portion of the fuel supply of the engine from the fuel supply line to a fuel sampling line. The monitoring system can analyze the portion of the fuel supply using the sensor apparatus to determine a fuel property measurement of the fuel supply. Additionally, the monitoring system can determine that the fuel property measurement is outside of a predefined range associated with a target performance level of the engine. In response, the monitoring system can perform a mitigation operation to cause the fuel supply to enable the target performance level of the engine.

Monitoring system for a gaseous fuel supply to an engine at a wellbore

A reserve fuel system can be used to supplement fuel provided to an engine of wellsite equipment. For example, a fuel supply line can transport gaseous fuel at a wellsite to an engine of an equipment coupled to the fuel supply line. A reserve fuel tank can store gaseous fuel diverted from the fuel supply line. The reserve fuel tank can include a first valve coupling a first end of the reserve fuel tank to the fuel supply line to divert the gaseous fuel and a second valve coupling a second end of the reserve fuel tank to the engine. The second valve can be in a closed position to prevent the stored gaseous fuel from transferring to the engine or an open position to transfer the stored gaseous fuel to the engine. A control system can adjust the second valve based on a pressure of the fuel supply line.
