A container that includes a microwave interactive web at least partially overlying and joined to a three-dimensional support, wherein the three-dimensional support may be formed prior to having the microwave interactive web mounted thereto. The three-dimensional support may be a preformed container that is sufficiently rigid and dimensionally stable for use in containing food.

System for forming constructs that include microwave interactive material

A flexible microwave heating package for food includes a first panel and a second panel joined to one another in a facing relationship, and a third panel joined to the first panel and the second panel. The first panel and second panel define walls of the package and the third panel defines a base of the package. The first panel and second panel may each include microwave energy interactive material operative for reflecting at least a portion of incident microwave energy.

A method of making a microwave energy interactive structure includes plasma treating the surface of a polymer film with an inert gas at a plasma treatment energy per unit surface area of the film of from about 0.005 J/cmto about 0.2 J/cmto reduce the apparent surface roughness of film the polymer film, and depositing a layer of microwave energy interactive material onto the plasma treated surface of the film.

A composite construct comprising a side wall extending at least partially around an interior of the composite construct. At least a portion of the side wall comprises at least one laminate, and the at least one laminate comprises at least one layer of material that comprises a first renewable polymer. A package with self-forming insulating walls includes a tray for supporting a food item, a flap joined to the tray along a fold line, and an insulating microwave material overlying at least a portion of the tray and at least a portion of the flap. The insulating microwave material may be joined to the flap. The insulating microwave material may include a microwave energy interactive material supported on a first polymer film layer, a moisture-containing layer joined to the microwave energy interactive material, and a second polymer film layer joined to the moisture-containing layer in a predetermined pattern, thereby defining a plurality of expandable cells between the moisture-containing layer and the second polymer film layer.

A microwave energy interactive structure includes a layer of indium tin oxide, which may be supported on a microwave energy transparent substrate. In one embodiment, the microwave energy interactive structure may have at least one of an oxygen transmission rate of less than about 0.05 cc/m/day and a water vapor transmission rate of less than about 0.09 g/m/day.

A microwave insulating material includes a dimensionally stable support, a patterned adhesive layer overlying at least a portion of the support, a polymer film layer overlying the patterned adhesive layer, and a plurality of expandable cells disposed between the support and the polymer film layer and defined by the patterned adhesive layer, wherein the expandable cells vary in size. A self-sealing microwave package includes a sheet of insulating material including a first surface, and a thermally activatable adhesive applied to at least a portion of the first surface.

Durable and disposable articles are provided which include a thermoplastic polymer composition, which includes a blend of a polymer and a modified polymer. The modified polymer has covalently bonded pendant substituents derived from cyclodextrin. The articles can be a films, coatings, nonwoven webs, or monolithic articles. An article can have the polymer composition as one part of the article, such as in one distinct area of the article, or on the surface of the article, for example as a coating or surface film. The article can be, for example, a multilayer barrier film, a nonwoven sheet or pad, an absorbent article, or a storage container.

Articles having a polymer grafted cyclodextrin

A package configured to receive a food item for storage and heating therein is disclosed. The package includes an opening and a closure mechanism and comprises an insulating microwave material. A plurality of packages in a stacked relation also is provided.

Methods of making one-piece lidded containers are described along with containers made by such methods. In one embodiment, the method entails providing a first length of thermoplastic material and a second length of thermoplastic material where a portion of the two lengths of thermoplastic material are brought into an overlapping or abutting orientation to provide a juncture of thermoplastic material. The juncture of thermoplastic material is subsequently secured. The one-piece lidded container is completed by forming a first container and a corresponding lid on the first and second lengths of thermoplastic material. Other embodiments are also described.
