Method and system for data transmission using a lossy compression service

Apparatus and a method are described for providing a security token. The security token may be used for numerous applications, but is particularly useful in conjunction with radiotelephone devices having secure functions. In accordance with the invention the user must insert a PIN and utter sounds. The radiotelephone device will activate the secure functions only if the PIN is correct and the sounds uttered are authenticated against voice feature vectors stores it the token.

Radio telecommunication device and method of authenticating a user with

Apparatus and a method are described for providing for multiple secure functions in a host or wireless radiotelephone. Access to the functionality of the radiotelephone is provided by means of a smart card or security token features contained therein. The determination of the secure function which is accessed is determined by encrypted credential information carried in the smart card. The smart card may be used for numerous applications, but is particularly useful in conjunction with radiotelephone devices having a plurality of secure communication levels. The radiotelephone device will activate the secure levels based on the security level algorithm carried in the smart card.

Security token and method for wireless applications

A secure communications system (501) including a local digital terminal (510) coupled to an interworking function (538). The interworking function (538) couples the digital radio network (121) to a PSTN (542, 546, 548) and a remote analog communication terminal (552). The system (501) includes a novel method of establishing an end-to-end communication channel between local digital (510) and remote analog (552) terminals wherein the local digital terminal establishes (510) a direct digital channel (121) between itself (510) and the interworking function (538) and transmits a message describing its signaling capabilities to the interworking function (538). The interworking function (538) then trains its modem with the modem of the remote analog terminal (552) such that signaling capabilities of the local digital terminal (510) and the remote analog terminal (552) are not violated. By moving modem training procedures to the interworking function (538), signal processing delays in the local digital terminal (510) do not adversely affect the success of establishing the end-to-end communication channel.

Modem training apparatus and method

The disclosure involves a heated roller having a generally-cylindrical outer shell, a primary heating coil between the shell and a roller head at the end of the shell. In the improvement, the head includes an independently-controlled (or controllable) auxiliary heating coil so that the end of the roller may be temperature-controlled independently of the shell. The user may thereby 'tailor' the temperature profile of the roller to suit a wide variety of applications. In specific embodiments, the auxiliary coil has the same or differing pitch along its length and/or the cable from which the coil is made has the same or differing wattage output per unit of cable length. A heating roller in combination with a transfer cylinder for a heat transfer decorating system is also disclosed.

A digital satellite communication system including a local terminal coupled to a radio wireline interface through a radio satellite network. The radio wireline interface connects the radio satellite network to a public switched telephone network and a remote communication terminal. The system includes a novel method of establishing an end-to-end communication channel between local and remote terminals wherein the local terminal establishes a direct digital channel between itself and the radio wireline interface and transmits a message describing its signaling capabilities to the radio wireline interface. The radio wireline interface then trains its modem with the modem of the remote terminal such that the signaling capabilities of the local terminal are not violated. By moving the modem training procedure to the radio wireline interface, modem training response delays caused by the radio satellite network do not affect the success of establishing the end-to-end communication channel.
