An implant device configured to be at least partially in contact with bone on implantation has an improved osteoinductive feature to enhance new bone formation. The implant device has one or more bone growth surfaces extending from a structurally solid feature of the implant device. The one or more bone growth surfaces are configured to mimic adult trabecular bone by having trenches, grooves or surface recesses or prominences exhibiting numerous structural elements or walls not perpendicular to the surface that are non-coplanar or arched extending 20 to 500 microns in depth having an increasing inclination from the surface extending inwardly and not parallel to opposing or adjacent walls forming a random or non-random network. The one or more bone growth surfaces configured to mimic trabecular bone have discernable nano features on the structural elements or walls exhibiting nano scale features of less than 200 nano meters within the network.

Methods of providing enhanced bone growth surfaces on an implant device

A biological composition has a mixture of mechanically selected allogeneic biologic material derived from bone marrow. The mixture has non-whole cellular components including vesicular components and active and inactive components of biological activity, cell fragments, cellular excretions, cellular derivatives, and extracellular components. The mixture including non-whole cell fractions including one or more of exosomes, transcriptosomes, proteasomes, membrane rafts, lipid rafts. The mixture is compatible with biologic function.

Bioenergetic bone

A coated biological composition has a mixture of biologic material and a volume of a liquid protectant. The mixture of biologic material has non-whole cellular components or whole cells or combinations of the non-whole cellular components and whole cells, wherein the mixture is compatible with biologic function. The volume of a liquid protectant is intermixed with the mixture of biologic material, wherein the liquid protectant forms a coating externally enveloping each of the non-whole cellular components, if any, and each of the whole cells, if any, of the mixture of biologic material, to form the coated biological composition. The coated biological composition is frozen and thereafter thawed and then frozen a second time for storage or frozen at least once and thawed and stored under refrigeration above freezing, or frozen and thawed and then concentrated by drying, or while frozen without thawing lyophilized for ambient or room temperature storage.

A method of making infused bone fibers employs the following steps: cutting or shaving whole bone into bone fibers, washing the bone fibers, demineralizing or decalcifying at least partially the whole bone or bone fibers and infusing the bone fibers with a supernatant of biologic material or a polyampholyte cryoprotectant or a combination of both to create infused bone fibers. The step of infusing includes exposing the bone fibers to a negative pressure or vacuum to draw the supernatant and/or the polyampholyte cryoprotectant into the bone fibers, or alternatively, exposing the demineralized whole bone to a positive pressure to drive the supernatant and/or the polyampholyte cryoprotectant into the bone. The resultant method creates an infused bone grafting composition having bone fibers taken from whole bone, demineralized or decalcified at least partially and infused with one or more of a supernatant of biologic material or a polyampholyte cryoprotectant or both.

In various embodiments, an intermedullary implant for interfacing with a bone structure includes a web structure, including a space truss, configured to interface with human bone tissue. The space truss includes two or more planar truss units having a plurality of struts joined at nodes. Implants are optimized for the expected stress applied at the bone structure site.

A vented wound dressing barrier includes one or more membrane layers with a plurality of vents. The vents are cut along a perimeter of the vents through the one or more membrane layers. Each vent having a connection portion uncut relative to the one or more membrane layers thereby forming a hinge configured to allow the vents to open for drainage when exposed to fluid underlying the vented wound dressing barrier. The plurality of vents is each cut along the perimeter without removal of any of the membrane layer. The one or more membrane layers with the plurality of vents has a surface for covering a wound, the surface area in the absence of a fluid pressing on the vents having no openings or voids which reduce the surface area of a vented wound dressing barrier area covering a wound.

A method of making infused non-demineralized cartilage fibers employs the following steps: cutting or shaving cartilage tissue into cartilage long aspect ratio fibers, washing the fibers, and infusing the fibers with a supernatant of biologic material or a polyampholyte cryoprotectant or a combination of both to create infused fibers.

Apparatuses and methods for producing enriched fibrillated tissue matrices are disclosed herein. Compositions and methods are provided for modulating the growth, development and repair of bone, cartilage or other connective tissue. Devices and stimulus waveforms are provided to differentially modulate the behavior of osteoblasts, chondrocytes and other connective tissue cells to promote proliferation, differentiation, matrix formation or mineralization for in vitro or in vivo applications. Continuous-mode and pulse-burst-mode stimulation of cells with charge-balanced signals may be used. Bone, cartilage and other connective tissue growth is stimulated in part by nitric oxide release through electrical stimulation and may be modulated through co-administration of NO donors and NO synthase inhibitors. Bone, cartilage and other connective tissue growth is stimulated in part by release of BMP-2 and BMP-7 in response to electrical stimulation to promote differentiation of cells. The methods and devices described are useful in promoting repair of bone fractures, cartilage and connective tissue repair as well as for engineering tissue for transplantation.
