Composting systems and methods are disclosed. A composting kit can be removably installed in roll-off waste containers and/or open-topped shipping containers without modifying the container. The composting kit can include a perforated aeration conduit, a flow regulator positioned along the perforated aeration conduit, and a delivery conduit fluidically coupled to the perforated aeration conduit at a releasable joint comprising a clearance fit. Additionally, the composting kit can include a blower configured to be fluidically coupled to the delivery conduit. The composting kit can be assembled into a working configuration in which the perforated aeration conduit is positioned within the container and the delivery conduit is fluidically coupled to the blower and to the perforated aeration conduit. The components of the composting kit can be removed from the container before the compost is unloaded from the container.

Container-based composting

Security systems and methods are disclosed. A security system can be employed with a mobile, unpowered container having a door movable between an open orientation and a closed orientation. The security system can include an enclosure and a switch movable between a closed configuration and an open configuration upon movement of the door between the open orientation and the closed orientation. The security system can further include a battery pack in communication with the switch. The security system can also include a security device. The battery pack can be configured to operably power the security device when the switch is in the closed configuration. The security system can be attached to the container with a magnet and/or an array of magnets enclosed in a flexible magnetic mat. The security system can be deployed for a plurality of deployment cycles.

Security systems for containers

A material removal system for removing oversized materials from a material stream. This material removal system comprises a first transfer system that is used to transport a material stream, a pulley separator, and a gap that is at least as small as the length of the oversized materials that are to be removed from the material stream. Moreover, the pulley separator comprises a rotatable outer shell that has a tubular width and circular cross-section. The pulley separator is located at a discharge end of the first transfer system to create a gap that is at least as small as the length of the oversized materials to be removed.

Oversized material removal system and method

A magnetic drum separator for the separation of ferrous and non-ferrous materials from a material stream that comprises an outer shell that is rotatable by a drive mechanism. The outer shell has a tubular length, a circular cross-section, a traction plate is joined to the outer shell, the traction plate has a traction element. In another embodiment the outer shell has a tubular length, a circular cross-section, and a integral traction element. The traction elements could be a series of negative indentations, raised bumps, perforations, serrated teeth, protruding ridges, segmented protruding ridges, minor cleats, or segmented minor cleats.

What is presented is a process for scrap metal processing for shredding and sorting recoverable material from a material stream that comprises a ferrous fraction, a non-ferrous fraction, a waste fraction and a less ferrous fraction that includes composite materials. The process comprises first shredding the material stream with a first shredder to a size that enables downstream processing. The shredded material stream is then conveyed to at least one drum separator to remove the non-ferrous fraction from the material stream and then conveyed to a first conveyor separator to further separate the ferrous fraction from the material stream. At the completion of these steps the remaining material stream to be handled by downstream processes represents 10% to 40% of the original material stream as compared to 70% to 75% of the material stream in the prior art.

Process for improving the quality of separated materials in the scrap metal industry

What is presented is a permanent magnet drum separator for removal of a ferrous fraction from a material stream comprising a pickup magnet that is a rare earth permanent magnet that can be moved within the drum separator. The drum separator comprises a rotatable outer shell having tubular shape with a circular cross section. The drum separator includes a carry magnet that is positioned at a fixed location within the rotatable outer shell near the inside circumference of the rotatable outer shell. The pickup magnet is positioned on a hinge plate within the rotatable outer shell. The hinge plate has a first end attached to a hinge and a second end attached to a movable element. The hinge is positioned at a fixed location within the rotatable outer shell near the inside circumference of said rotatable outer shell. The movable element is able to move the pickup magnet about the hinge to vary the distance between the pickup magnet and the inside circumference of the rotatable outer shell.

A centering roller which is used with reinforced conveyor belts has permanent magnets within its outer shell to attract the steel cables used to reinforce the lateral portions of the belt. Preferably, the permanent magnets are of the rare earth variety to provide increased magnetic attraction and ensure centering of the belt.
