A row unit for an agricultural harvester includes left and right row unit arms that are fixed together with the shaped support. The shaped support is bent to extend across the top of the row unit arms and down the outside vertical surfaces of the row unit arms. The shaped support is welded to the outside vertical surfaces of the row unit arms.

A row unit comprises a row unit gearbox with two shearing edges and two stalk rolls with corresponding shearing edges, wherein the stalk roll shearing edges shear against the gearbox shearing edges when the stalk rolls rotate during normal operation of the row unit, thereby chopping material that might otherwise be wrapped around the row unit gearbox and be jammed between the stalk rolls and the gearbox.

A combine head trough assembly comprises a curved steel panel having two openings passing therethrough, one opening being disposed at each end of the panel, the assembly further comprising two doors configured to respectively cover the two openings. The doors are pivoted between a closed position during normal combine operation and an open position to permit cleanout of crop material.

The invention comprises a point and cover assembly for a row crop header including a point; a cover coupled to the point with a hinge; a latch fixed to the cover, the latch having a first spring-loaded latch pin for pinning the cover to a first row unit, a second spring loaded latch pin for pinning the cover to a second row unit, and a member coupling the two latch pins together that is operable by one hand to release both latch pins; and a point support fixed to the cover, the point support comprising an elongate member fixed at its rear end to the cover and having an adjustable point rest at its front end for supporting the point at a plurality of different heights.

A harvesting reel is rotatably mounted on left and right saddles. The saddles are slidably positioned on fore/aft extending arms. A fore/aft position sensor is located between one of the fore/aft extending arms and the respective saddle. The fore/aft extending arm is provided with a slot that extends along the arm at an angle thereto. A sensing finger engages the slot and is coupled to a potentiometer by a sensing arm. As the fore/aft position of the reel changes, the relative position of the sensing finger changes creating a changing electrical output from the potentiometer. The resulting potentiometer voltage represents a fore/aft position signal that is directed to a controller.

A ground contact height sensor for a harvesting header comprises a transverse rotatable shaft, a first rigid arm, a second rigid arm and a connecting member. The rotatable shaft is rotatively mounted to the frame of the header. The first rigid arm is rigidly mounted to the rotatable shaft. The first arm extends downwardly and rearwardly from the rotatable shaft in a curved manner. The second rigid arm is pivotally coupled to the first rigid arm by a hinge joint. The second rigid arm extends upwardly and rearwardly from the second end of the first rigid arm. The first and second rigid arms defining a relatively large radius. The connecting member secures the rearmost end of the second rigid arm to the frame of the header. To maintain the radius of the two pivotally connected rigid arms the hinge joint joining the two rigid arms is provided with a torsion spring.

A stalk roll comprises a cylindrical shell having six integral flutes. Each flute is provided with a knife edge having a leading surface and a trailing surface. The leading surface has a forward slope of approximately 10.degree. from the plane formed by the central longitudinal axis of the cylindrical shell and the vertex of the respective knife edge. The trailing surface has a reverse slope of approximately 30.degree. from the plane formed by the central longitudinal axis of the cylindrical shell and the vertex of the respective knife edge. The cylindrical shell comprises two semi-cylindrical pieces that are clamped about a drive shaft of a corn harvesting head by associated bolts.

In an axial flow rotary separator, a transition zone between the infeed section and threshing sections is modified to serve as a stone trap or arresting and ejecting device. Radially aligned inner and outer stone collars carried by the separator rotor and casing respectively, obtrude into the annular space between rotor and casing to define between them an annular slot or gate, decreasing or limiting the annular space so as to arrest the downstream passage of stones greater than a predetermined size. The inside surface of the casing immediately upstream of the stone collars is smooth and free of guide vanes to provide a track over which arrested stones may be propelled by conveyor flights of the rotor. A permanently open outlet in the stone track allows the rotor to eject stones tangentially and centrifugally into a stone sump connected to the casing. The stone sump is easily emptied by opening a door accessible from outside the combine body wall.
