The enhancement of images to be displayed on a liquid crystal display (LCD) comprises remapping initial pixel values to remapped pixel values in accordance with an equation that raises an initial pixel value to an exponent of a modified gamma value ratio. The modified gamma value ratio is based on a backlight level, an ambient light level and/or other light levels associated with the LCD. The enhancement can selectively increase image brightness in response to a reduction in the backlight level or an increase in the ambient light level, or selectively reduce image brightness in response to a reduction in the ambient light level. The image or a portion of the image can be enhanced. An image portion to be enhanced can be a user-specified bounding box or one or more windows selected by a user or associated with one or more applications running on a computing device.

Enhancement of images for display on liquid crystal displays

Methods and systems are provided for facilitating control of access to technology to authorized parties. A licensor provides licensure information to an application developer that includes a private key and a license, the license including an application public key and an identifying mark associated with the licensor, e.g., a digital signature. The licensor additionally provides a licensor public key to an implementation developer. The application developer and the implementation developer subsequently write the received information into the respective application and implementation. At runtime, the application adds ephemeral data and an identifying mark associated with the application to the application license and forwards the marked extended application license to the implementation. The implementation then validates the ephemeral data, the licensor's identifying mark and the licensee's identifying mark. Once all information is validated, the marked extended application license is validated and the licensed application may expose the licensed technology to a user.

Controlling access to technology based upon authorization

Described herein are technologies directed towards non-realtime transcoding (e.g., compressing) a formatted multimedia datastream and doing so without consuming additional storage space or without making the data unavailable during the process.

Non-realtime data transcoding of multimedia content

A decoder receives an entry point header comprising plural control parameters for an entry point segment corresponding to the entry point header. The entry point header is in an entry point layer of a bitstream comprising plural layers. The decoder decodes the entry point header. The plural control parameters can include various combinations of control parameters such as a pan scan on/off parameter, a reference frame distance on/off parameter, a loop filtering on/off parameter, a fast chroma motion compensation on/off parameter, an extended range motion vector on/off parameter, a variable sized transform on/off parameter, an overlapped transform on/off parameter, a quantization decision parameter, and an extended differential motion vector coding on/off parameter, a broken link parameter, a closed entry parameter, one or more coded picture size parameters, one or more range mapping parameters, a hypothetical reference decoder buffer parameter, and/or other parameter(s).

Signaling coding and display options in entry point headers

Techniques and tools for coding/decoding of digital video, and in particular, for determining, signaling and detecting entry points in video streams are described. Techniques and tools described herein are used to embed entry point indicator information in the bitstream that receivers, editing systems, insertion systems, and other systems can use to detect valid entry points in compressed video.

Signaling valid entry points in a video stream

A compressed digital audio signal is transmitted from an audio source along a connection wire to an audio receiver. The digital audio signal can encode digital audio data having different sampling frequencies, frames sizes, and other information. The audio receiver that receives the digital audio signal can decode and convert the compressed digital audio signal into multiple synchronized analog signals, which are used to drive multiple speakers. The audio receiver may also synchronize the audio data with associated video data so that the audio playback and video playback are 'in sync', despite delay introduced by the audio signal decoding at the audio receiver.

Digital audio processing

A sound compensation system alters an electrical audio signal for input to a sonic reproduction device having associated behavioral characteristics. The behavior characteristics of the device are defined by individual or groups of individual components of the sonic reproduction device and include mechanical, acoustic and electromagnetic behaviors. The model includes a plurality of filters that simulate at least one of the behavior characteristics of the sonic reproduction device. The filters are defined by digital signal processes or by analog circuits and are characterized by one or more of an associated frequency, time, phase and transient response. These responses combine to define an overall response for the model. The filters include adjustable parameters which are used to alter filter responses to produce responses that are conjugates to the responses of the unaltered filters and thus the sonic reproduction device. A controller modifies the parameters.
