A fuel tank system includes a fuel tank and a fuel pump assembly arranged in the fuel tank and including a fuel pump and a vacuum source. A fuel tank venting system includes a first vent valve arranged in the fuel tank. A storage vessel is arranged in the fuel tank and in fluid communication with the first vent valve. A first fluid line arranged in the fuel tank connecting the storage vessel to the vacuum source of the fuel pump assembly. A second fluid line connects the storage vessel to an evaporative emission system.

Fuel tank venting system with liquid collection and active purging

An air intake system for an internal combustion engine is described, and includes a vapor capture element disposed in an interior portion of an air intake system. The vapor capture element includes a flexible Metal Organic Framework (MOF) material, wherein the flexible MOF material is reversibly controllable to a first state and to a second state in response to a control stimulus. The flexible MOF material is configured to adsorb hydrocarbon vapor when controlled to the first state and configured to desorb the hydrocarbon vapor when controlled to the second state.

Vapor capture element for an air intake system of an internal combustion engine

The concepts described herein provide for a system, apparatus and/or method for fuel vapor capture on-vehicle for evaporative emission control. This includes a device for capturing fuel vapor on-vehicle that includes a canister device having a first port that is fluidly coupled to a head space portion of a fuel tank. The canister device defines a chamber that is fluidly coupled in series between the first port and a second port. A first Metal Organic Framework (MOF) material is disposed in the chamber to adsorb fuel vapor constituents.

Evaporative canister for an internal combustion engine

A vehicle system having an internal combustion engine and evaporative emission system including a canister is described, wherein canister includes a chamber having a flexible Metal Organic Framework (MOF) material disposed therein. A controllable device is coupled to the flexible MOF material, and a controller is operatively connected to the controllable device and the purge valve. The controller includes an instruction set that is executable to activate the controllable device and control the purge valve to an open state in response to a command to purge the canister, determine an activation parameter for the controllable device, determine a purge flow, integrate the purge flow to determine a total purge mass, and deactivate the controllable device when the total purge mass is greater than a threshold.

Method and system for controlling an on-vehicle evaporative emission system

The concepts described herein provide for a method, apparatus and system to monitor and control a fuel vapor capture system that is disposed in an air intake system of an internal combustion engine for evaporative emission control. This includes an air intake system for an internal combustion engine that includes a fuel vapor capture system disposed in an interior portion of the air intake system, the fuel vapor capture system including a Metal Organic Framework (MOF) material that is configured to adsorb and desorb hydrocarbon vapor and a controllable device that is integrated into the fuel vapor capture system. In one embodiment, the MOF material is a flexible MOF material.

Method and system for operating a fuel vapor capture system of an air intake system of an internal combustion engine

An exemplary system for monitoring and controlling evaporative emissions for a vehicle includes a first fuel vapor adsorption canister, a second fuel vapor adsorption canister, a first passage from the fuel supply to the first canister, a second passage from the first canister to the canister, the second passage including a first valve selectively actuatable from a first position to a second position, a third passage from the first and second canisters for venting the first and second canisters, a fourth passage connecting the second canister to the third passage, and a controller electrically connected to the first valve. Fuel vapor is routed to the first canister when a first condition is not satisfied and fuel vapor is routed to the second canister when the first condition is satisfied.

Hydrocarbon emission control system

A fuel cap for a filler neck on a fuel tank includes a cap body having threads for engaging the filler neck when the fuel cap is installed on the filler neck and a cap handle rotatably mounted on the cap body. A clutch acts between the cap handle and the cap body to permit the cap handle to rotate freely on the cap body when the clutch is disengaged. When the clutch is engaged, rotation of the cap handle will rotate the cap body so that the user can remove the fuel cap from the filler neck to refuel the vehicle. A pressure-sensing diaphragm disengages the clutch when the pressure differential between the fuel vapor pressure and the atmospheric pressure exceeds a predetermined threshold and engages the clutch when the pressure differential between the fuel vapor pressure and the atmospheric pressure is less than the predetermined threshold.

Fuel cap

A control module for an engine of a vehicle includes a mode determination module that determines whether the vehicle is in a fuel-saving mode based on an acceleration of the vehicle. A diurnal control valve (DCV) control module selectively closes a DCV a predetermined time after at least one of determining that the vehicle is in the fuel-saving mode and determining that the engine is stopped.

Plug-in hybrid EVAP valve management to reduce valve cycling

A vehicle fuel emissions system includes a fuel tank, a tank pressure sensor indicating a pressure differential between the tank and a port communicating with the atmosphere, a pump for selectively producing vacuum in the tank, and a passage connecting the pump and a pressure sensor air reference port external to the system.
