An improved human-computer interface for placing and sizing virtual objects in a three-dimensional ('3D') representation of a real-world environment is disclosed herein. The disclosed HCI can determine a location, size, and orientation of virtual objects in a 3D representation of a real-world environment based on simplified user gestures. In some embodiments, based on the timing and direction of an input gesture, a computing device can utilize (1) an automated mode that determines a position and orientation of a virtual object or utilize (2) a manual mode that determines position, orientation, and size of the virtual object. A computing device capable of 3D spatial mapping generates mesh data defining a 3D representation of a real-world environment and images of the real-world environment. The size of the virtual object can be based on a computed depth of real-world objects related to the virtual object.

Human-computer interface for computationally efficient placement and sizing of virtual objects in a three-dimensional representation of a real-world environment

A computing system is provided, including a first display device having a first hardware configuration including a first display and a second display device having a second hardware configuration different from the first hardware configuration and including a second display. The computing system may further include a processor configured to receive an input including instructions to launch an application program on the first display device. The application program may include application program hardware specifications indicating hardware used by the application program. Based on the first hardware configuration, the second hardware configuration, and the application program hardware specifications, the processor may be further configured to determine that the second hardware configuration matches the application program hardware specifications more closely than the first hardware configuration. The processor may be further configured to launch the application program on the second display device.

Display device selection based on hardware configuration

A system to identify and leverage geographically proximate client devices to reduce network traffic associated with facilitating digital collaboration sessions in a real-world environment. Embodiments enable a user to initiate a digital collaboration session and to limit participation in the digital collaboration session to client devices that are physically located within a geofence (e.g., a virtual geographic boundary). Other client devices that are located within the geofence are identified and enabled to join the digital collaboration session. participants may each use their own client device to contribute to the digital collaboration session. Participants can save individual segments of the digital collaboration session by indicating an interest immediately after the segments occur. Client devices then upload data for the segment for enhancement. Enhancing the segment includes adjusting a timing of at least some of the participants' contributions to more closely match an underlying rhythmic pattern of the segment of interest.

Leveraging geographically proximate devices to reduce network traffic generated by digital collaboration

A hinged multi-screen computing device is provided that includes a housing having first and second parts coupled by a hinge, each part including a display, a sensor mounted in the housing and configured to detect a hinge angle between the first and second parts, and processor configured to render and display a three-dimensional representation of a virtual object on the first display, the three-dimensional view of the virtual object being rendered based upon the detected hinge angle.

A field of view of a virtual environment is visually presented via a near-eye display from a first perspective. A begin-adjustment command is received. A peripheral region of the field of view that surrounds a wearer's gaze target is dimmed, via the near-eye display, based on the begin-adjustment command. A navigation command is received. The field of view of the virtual environment is adjusted from the first perspective to a second perspective based on the navigation command. An end-adjustment command is received. The peripheral region of the field of view is brightened, via the near-eye display, based on the end-adjustment command. The field of view of the virtual environment is visually presented, via the near-eye display, from the second perspective.
