A computer system executes a user-supplied query across multiple relational database tables linked by a common key. A new query form, called a composite join, takes a user-supplied query including one or more terms optionally joined by logical operations, an identification of two or more tables and an identification of a common join key shared across the tables. The composite join applies the query across the tables such that any of the query terms can be matched by any of the tables. A query is performed across all tables for each query term and any join keys associated with matching records from the tables are identified in a set of join keys associated with the respective term. The logical operations are then performed on the resulting sets of join keys to combine the results of the term queries according to the user query.

Querying across a composite join of multiple database tables using a search engine index

Some computer applications, such as database applications, generate sparse arrays that map identifiers to field values. To reduce memory usage, only those blocks of the array with non-empty entries are stored, and only the entries between and including the first non-empty entry and the last non-empty entry are stored. The offset and length of this range of non-empty entries is stored. To retrieve a value for an entry of the array, it is determined whether the entry is in an empty block or a non-empty block. If the entry is in an empty block, a null value is returned for the entry. If the entry is not in the stored range of entries for a non-empty block, a null value is returned for the entry. Otherwise, the value stored in the block for that entry is returned.

According to one embodiment of the disclosure, an unmanned vehicle message conversion system generally includes a message interpreter that is coupled between a first unmanned vehicle control interface and a second unmanned vehicle control interface. The second unmanned vehicle control interface is configured to transmit and receive messages with a messaging protocol that is different than the first unmanned vehicle control interface. The message interpreter is operable to receive a first message from the unmanned vehicle control system, convert the first message to a second message having the second protocol, and transmit the second message to the unmanned vehicle.

A system and method for decentralized cooperative control of a team of agents for geographic and other search tasks. The approach is behavior-based and uses probability particle approach to the search problem. Agents are attracted to probability distributions in the form of virtual particles of probability that represent hypotheses about the existence of objects of interest in a geographic area or a data-space. Reliance on dependable, high-bandwidth communication is reduced by modeling the movements of other team members and the objects of interest between periodic update messages.

Regenerative surfing is utilizing a controllable regenerative braking system to regulate speed while surfing. A vertical sculling hydrofoil boat, utilizes the regenerative braking system and includes a vertical sculling drive system for both propulsion and regenerative braking. The regenerative surfing boat also may include ballast tanks to tune the speed at which the maximum lift to drag ratio appears. The regenerative surfing boat may use an automated surfing control system to control the boat. A method of controlling the trajectory of a surfing boat by controlling a regenerative braking device utilizes a hydrodynamic power collection device for trajectory control as an energy harvesting method.

A counterpulsation device that operates without the use of compressed air or pressurized gas includes at least one inflatable cuff that is adapted to be placed about a selected portion of the patient's body. A first conduit connects the inflatable cuff to an air transfer device so that noncompressed air can be transferred from the air transfer device to the cuff through the first conduit to inflate the cuff. A second conduit connects the cuff to the air transfer device so that air can flow through the second conduit to deflate the cuff. The system is controlled using a computer-based controller that requires a series of initialization procedures before it will operate the system. A patient profile database includes historical treatment data for each patient and is automatically updated with each counter pulsation therapy session.

Computer-based control for a counterpulsation device using noncompressed air

A counterpulsation device that operates without the use of compressed air or pressurized gas includes at least one inflatable cuff that is adapted to be placed about a selected portion of the patient's body. A conduit connects the inflatable cuff to an air transfer device so that noncompressed air can be transferred from the air transfer device to the cuff through the conduit to inflate the cuff. The conduit also connects the cuff to the air transfer device so that air can flow through the conduit to deflate the cuff. Another conduit is coupled to the first so that the air in the system can be selectively vented into the atmosphere. A series of valves are placed on the conduit to selectively control whether air is supplied to or withdrawn from the inflatable cuff. The air moving device preferably is a cylinder having a piston that moves through the cylinder to move the air from within the cylinder through the conduit and into or out of the cuff as desired. The piston moves through the cylinder through the use of a linear servo actuator that is controlled by an appropriately programmed electronic controller so that the inflation of the cuff is timed with portions of the patient's EKG signal and peripheral plethysmographic wave.
