Processes for chemically treating polyaromatic feedstock to form aromatic-containing oligomers or polymers are provided. The processes are characterized by treatment of a plurality of different polyaromatic hydrocarbon molecules and/or polyheterocyclic molecules present in polyaromatic feedstock with a first reagent so as to functionalize the molecules. Further treatment in a second step affords oligomeric or polymeric products which may be crosslinked. The products may be thermoplastic or thermoset materials and may find use in, for example, infrastructure applications, composites, fillers, fire retardants and 3-D printing materials.

Processes for functionalization and polymerization of polyaromatic feedstock

In some embodiments, the present disclosure provides a composition comprising 1) about 97.5 wt % to about 99.9 wt % of a first polyethylene having a density of about 0.91 g/cmto about 0.94 g/cm, and a melt strength of about 10 mN or greater; and 2) about 0.1 wt % to about 2.5 wt % of a second polyethylene having an Mw of about 500,000 g/mol or more. In some embodiments, the composition is a film. In some embodiments, the present disclosure provides a method of making a composition comprising blending a first polyethylene of any embodiment described herein and a second polyethylene of any embodiment described herein.

Processes and systems for producing olefin epoxides with three or more carbon atoms by oxidation of the corresponding branched hydrocarbons using oxygen are disclosed. An example process for producing olefin epoxides may include oxidizing a branched alkane to produce at least an organic hydroperoxide. The example process may further include epoxidizing a branched alkene by a catalytic reaction with least a portion of the organic hydroperoxide to produce at least an olefin epoxide and an alcohol. The example process may further include converting at least a portion of the alcohol to either additional branched alkane and/or additional branched alkene.

A method may include: oxidizing iso-butane with oxygen to produce t-butyl hydroperoxide and t-butyl alcohol; dehydrating at least a portion of the t-butyl alcohol to produce di-tert-butyl ether and isobutylene; epoxidizing at least a portion of the isobutylene with the t-butyl hydroperoxide to produce isobutylene oxide and t-butyl alcohol; and carbonylating at least a portion of the isobutylene oxide with carbon monoxide to produce pivalolactone.

The present disclosure relates to methods for preparing materials from heavy feedstocks. In particular, the disclosure provides a chemical process to convert heavy feedstocks with predominant polyaromatic hydrocarbon molecules or species, including the residues of petrochemical refining or extraction, into thermoset or thermoplastic materials that can be used alone or as a component in a composite material.

System and process for the production of functionalized olefinic-based polymer

This disclosure describes a new route to acrylate esters via direct catalytic partial oxidation of allyl ether using heterogeneous manganese oxide catalysts. The method involves forming allyl acrylate by contacting allyl ether, where the allyl ether is in solution with a solvent, with one or more oxidants in the presence of a mesoporous manganese oxide (MnOx) catalyst. Oxygen or peroxide can be used as the oxidant. The yield of and selectivity for acrylate ester can be very high, and process efficiency is improved over current processes.

Direct catalytic partial oxidation of allyl ether

Copolymer are formed by polymerizing Cto Cisoolefin monomers and alkyl-styrene monomers. The method comprises first providing feed streams into a reactor. The various feed streams provide monomers, a polar diluent or polar diluent mixture, and a catalyst system into the reactor. In the reactor, the feed streams contact one another so that the monomers form a polymer in a stable slurry, wherein the amount of polymer in the slurry yields a slurry concentration greater than 22 wt %. The ratio of moles of polymer formed per mole initiator is in the range of 0.25 to 4.0 moles polymer per mole of initiator.

The present invention is directed to a membrane for ethanol and aromatics separation that is stable in an alcohol containing environment. The membrane is a polyether epoxy resin having an aliphatic substituted epoxide. The invention also teaches a method to control the flux and selectivity of the membrane.

The present invention relates to an in-line method for generating comonomer from monomer, such as ethylene. The comonomer generated is directly transported, without isolation or storage, to a polyethylene polymerization reactor. The in-line method includes the steps of providing an in-line comonomer synthesis reactor and a downstream gas/liquid phase separator prior to the polymerization reactor; feeding ethylene monomer and a catalyst in a solvent and/or diluent to the comonomer synthesis reactor; reacting the ethylene monomer and the catalyst in solvent and/or diluent under reaction conditions to produce an effluent stream including ethylene monomer and comonomer; passing the effluent stream from the comonomer synthesis reactor to the downstream gas/liquid phase separator to separate a gas stream from a bottom stream, wherein the gas stream is a mixture of ethylene monomer and comonomer; and passing the gas stream to the polymerization reactor to provide the necessary comonomer input.

Methods for producing elastomers or elastomeric compositions are provided. One or more Cto Cisoolefins and one or more comonomers can be polymerized in the presence of a diluent comprising one or more hydrofluorocarbons to provide a slurry comprising polymer product, unreacted monomer and the diluent. The slurry can be extruded to separate at least a portion of the diluent from the polymer product. The separated diluent can be recycled for polymerizing the one or more Cto Cisoolefins.
