A rotary engine that starts and operates on compression-ignition of a heavy fuel without a secondary ignition source. The rotary engine includes a rotor housing that forms an epitrochoidal-shaped chamber having linear side portions extending between rounded end portions. A three-flanked rotor is disposed in the chamber to rotate and operate in a manner similar to that of a common Wankel-style rotary engine. The rotor and chamber are configured to provide a compression ratio sufficient to produce compression-ignition of a heavy fuel. The rotor includes apex seal and side seal mounting blocks formed from hardened materials and that are simply removable from the rotor for replacing apex and side seals. The apex seals may include multiple non-parallel seal members at each apex and the apex seals and the side seals may overlap or intersect a corner seal to increase sealing under high compression loads produced by the rotor/chamber configuration.

A system and method of using a combination strapping machine including a wire tying system and a plastic tying system is provided. Embodiments of the strapping machine include a common frame coupled to a wire strapping system, a single wire track, a plastic strapping system, and a single plastic track. Some embodiments of the combination strapping machine include a strapping machine frame having a common track perimeter. Further, the strapping machine includes a plastic tying system configured to apply a plastic strap to a baled material, and a wire tying system configured to apply a wire strap to the baled material. Some embodiments of the strapping machine include a common track for the wire tying system and plastic tying system. Some embodiments of the strapping machine include a common frame for the wire tying system and plastic tying system with a non-common track. Other embodiments of the combination strapping machine are controlled by a common control system that coordinates both plastic and wire strapping according to a predetermined order of strap application.

A portable barrier installation system and release mechanism is provided. A support frame comprising a first support arch is coupled on each end to a first and second support base. A second support arch, parallel to the first support arch, is coupled on each end to the first and second support base. A hopper assembly is coupled to the support frame. Rotation of the hopper assembly causes the hopper assembly to be in a fill or storage position. A release mechanism facilitates the release and placement of filled bags.

A bulk material baler for binding bales of bulk material with more than two baling wires or straps. The baling wires or straps are bound around the bale with wire drive wheels that push the wire through a guide track around the bale and back to a knotter that ties together the ends of the bale wire. The narrow head of the present invention orients the drive wheels in a plane perpendicular to the plane of the bale wire loop, and makes it possible to put the wire feed drive wheels, knotter and guide track ends all in a 9&#xbc; inches wide space so that adjacent baling wires can be bound around a bale simultaneously.

An operator interface for a control system for a bulk material baler includes interface means such as a touch screen or keyboard for an operator to enter process parameters into a control system memory. A display shows process parameter fields into which an operator may enter desired control parameters. The display also displays data feedback from baler process sensors. The baler control system then controls baling parameters as the operator directs including: strap feed position, strap feed speed, strap feed torque, strap release tension, tying cylinder position, tying cylinder speed and tying cylinder torque. The operator may also control carriage movement, alarm limits, shut off limits and monitor on the display baler processing data both currently and historically. Other aspects of automated baling may be optionally monitored or controlled through the operator interface of the present invention.

The invention is a baling machine with an articulated guide track disposed in three operationally distinct sections. One section of the articulated guide track, representing approximately one-half of the track perimeter, is movable between a first position and a second position. In the first position, the large section completes a guide track perimeter. In the second position, the large section pivots away from tying heads of the baling machine to permit ejection of the bale from the machine.

A bale binding machine utilizes controlled pins to guide the path of a wire (or strap) around a bale such that strength-reducing bending is not introduced to the wire. The bale binding machine binds bales of fibrous bulk materials such as cotton and nylon.

A tilt out head for a bulk material baler that includes a bracket for holding a baling wire feed drive, including an electro servo motor and drive wheels, a baling wire knotter including tying cylinders and an electro servo motor and optionally other equipment such as a cutter, a gripper, and tensioning pins. The tilt out bracket of the present invention pivots at its lower extremity so that the equipment on the bracket may rotate outwards and down away from a baler carriage to a stopped position that exposes all of the parts for ease of repair and maintenance.

A guide track for a strap with which to bind a bale of bulk material. The guide track includes a convex portion and a restraining portion. Two lateral guide track halves are biased together. On their internal faces the guide track section halves have channels. The baling strap or baling wire is driven through the channels and guided around the material to be baled. The channels widen from a small diameter to a wide aperture at the receiving end of the guide track sections for receiving a lead end of a wire or strap that is propelled across a gap from a preceding guide track section.

A control system for a bulk material baler embodied in a machine readable data structure and including an instruction to a moveable guide track to move from a removed position to a closed position to create a guide track loop around a volume of bulk material to be baled while that bulk material is under compression and also including in instruction to a bale strap feed drive to feed a pre-determined length of strapping around the guide track loop, and including an instruction to a cutter to cut the end of the bale strap and including an instruction to a strap fastener to fasten together the ends of the bale strap and including an instruction to remove the moveable guide track section from around the bale and an instruction to release compression and an instruction to eject a bound bale.
