An interconnection between a twisted pair communications cable and a communications connector having a plurality of IDCs includes: a housing having an aperture and a pair of first and second IDCs extending within the aperture; a twisted pair communications cable having a twisted pair of first and second conductors and a separator positioned between the first and second conductors; and a termination device. The termination device comprises: a body having an outer surface; a channel in the outer surface of the body, the channel configured to receive a twist of the first and second conductors and maintain the twist in position; and IDC guide structure configured to guide the first IDC into engagement with the first conductor at a first engagement location and the second IDC into engagement with the second conductor at a second engagement location, the engagement locations positioned within the channel and the twist of the conductors.

Devices for connecting conductors of twisted pair cable to insulation displacement contacts

A termination device to facilitate interconnection of a twisted pair communications cable to IDCs includes: a housing having an aperture and a pair of first and second IDCs extending within the aperture; a twisted pair communications cable having a twisted pair of first and second conductors; and a termination device. The termination device comprises: a body having an outer surface; a channel in the outer surface of the body, the channel being sized and configured to receive a twist of the first and second conductors and to maintain the twist in position; and IDC guide structure configured to guide the first IDC into engagement with the first conductor at a first engagement location and the second IDC into engagement with the second conductor at a second engagement location, the first and second engagement locations being positioned within the channel and within the twist of the first and second conductors. A splitting structure is positioned in the channel that separates at least a portion of the first and second conductors as they reside in the channel.

A termination device to facilitate interconnection of a twisted pair communications cable to IDCs includes: a body having an outer surface; a channel in the outer surface of the body, the channel being sized and configured to receive a twist of two conductors of a twisted pair communications cable and to maintain the twist in position; and IDC guide structure configured to guide a first IDC of a pair of IDCs into engagement with a first conductor of a twisted pair at a first engagement location and a second IDC of the pair of IDCs into engagement with a second conductor of the twisted pair at a second engagement location.

A device for receiving and organizing twisted pairs of conductors from a cable having a plurality of twisted pairs of conductors includes a block with upper and lower surfaces, first and second opposing end walls that define a longitudinal axis, and first and second opposing side walls. The block further comprises at least one aperture extending from the upper surface toward the lower surface, the aperture being sized and configured to receive each of the plurality of twisted pairs of a cable. Each of the side walls includes at least one open-ended slot opening downwardly, each of the slots being sized and configured to receive a respective twisted pair of conductors. In this configuration, the device can facilitate termination of twisted pair conductors onto IDCs or the like and can provide a termination with less dimensional variation (and, in turn, less variation in electrical performance) than prior termination devices.

Device for managing termination of conductors with jack modules

A back-end variation control cap configured for use with a jack module including a plurality of insulation displacement connectors, the cap being configured for routing a plurality of twisted conductor pairs. The cap includes an upper portion, a bottom portion, a plurality of twisted pair channels extending between the upper portion and the bottom portion, and a pair of opposed end walls, each of the end walls including a plurality of wire constraints disposed thereon. Each wire constraint has opposed surfaces configured to retain one of the conductors and each twisted conductor pair extends through one of the twisted pair channels and the conductors of the twisted conductor pairs are disposed in the plurality of wire constraints such that each conductor is aligned with one of the insulation displacement connectors when the bottom portion is disposed adjacent the jack module.
